My Week Unwrapped: January 15, 2018 – Rusty Lake Paradise, Six Match, Let Them Come, Meteorfall and More

Hi everyone and welcome back to another installment of My Week Unwrapped, where I talk about the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. I worked on some walkthroughs and also played some high score chasers, so this week is more about quality than quantity. In any case, I’m excited to tell you about them, so let’s get right to it.

Rusty Lake Paradise

Rusty Lake Paradise, the latest in the Cube Escape and Rusty Lake series of adventure games, finally released this week. This one has you take on the role of Jakob Eilander as he visits his family’s island home and experiences all ten Egyptian plagues. I mean, of course he does. This is Rusty Lake, after all! As can be expected, there’s a lot of bizarre stuff going on, and you do need to be able to stomach cartoon blood, puke and poop. It’s delightfully weird, sometimes confusing, but always entertaining. The puzzles are a mix of easier and trickier ones, but are also fifty achievements to collect, some of which are pretty difficult to find. I finished the game this morning and am still looking for the last few achievements. But you can see my walkthrough here and achievement guide here if you need help.

Six Match

Aaron Steed’s Six Match is one of those rare games that released first on Android, and I kept seeing people talk about it but couldn’t play yet. Well, this week it released on iOS and I’ve been playing it almost nonstop. It’s kind of like Swap Sword but endless and less stressful. It’s a really solid game to play at any time, since it works one-handed and saves constantly. You can also read my full review here, but the game’s free so just try it yourself.

Let Them Come

Versus Evil’s Let Them Come is a PC game that had been in the process of being ported over to iOS for quite some time. It finally made its way to us his week for a low, low price of $1.99, with no in-app purchases. You basically have a machine gun and you have to kill hordes of aliens that are coming at you. The catch is, it’s dark and you can’t see them so well. The game is fairly forgiving, as you can continue from the wave where you died instead of always starting over from the first wave. But I’m finding the touch controls a little fiddly, as sometimes my finger will slide off the “shoot” button and that split second mistake could cost me my life. The equipment upgrades also leave something to be desired. It seems the best perks come from random bonuses you earn, like a drone I had helping me at one point. In the end, I didn’t find the game enjoyable to go back to it, but check out my video below to see if it’s something you might be interested in.

Adventure Escape: Allied Spies

I finally finished my walkthrough for the latest Haiku game, Adventure Escape: Allied Spies. This one had probably the most interesting story yet, as it’s about occupied France during World War 2. The problem is, it has a lot of frustrating and tedious puzzles, some of them rehashed from previous games. If not for the desire to finish my walkthrough, I probably would have skipped a handful of puzzles just to save myself the aggravation. I hope the next game manages to keep things interesting without having to resort to annoying puzzles. In any case, you can find my walkthrough here.

Meteorfall

And last but not least, before I downloaded Match Six, I was playing Slothwerks’ Meteorfall when I wasn’t working on a walkthrough. I wrote about it last week, when I had managed to top the current leaderboards with the healer, Rose. I’d since played quite a bit with Greybeard, the wizard, and he’s my new favorite. I managed to beat my previous high score and in general have been able to really well with him. I’m still trying to beat the game with the two melee characters, as they’re proving more of a challenge. The game releases January 25th, so look for more about it from me then. It’s definitely a game to check out if you like solitaire card games.

And that’s everything I’ve been up to this week! I know we have some big games releasing in the next two weeks, so it should get busier. I’m looking forward to both The Room: Old Sins and Thumper, though I’ll probably suck at Thumper. Let me know what you’ve been up to and I’ll see you back here next week with more of My Week Unwrapped!
