This is a guide with help, tips and tricks for You Must Build a Boat by EightyEight Games LTD (Luca Redwood). It includes the secret monsters and some other tips I thought would be helpful. Feel free to ask for help in the comments section or offer your own tips.
Starting Guide:
In this game, you need to slide rows and columns of tiles to match three of a kind. You need to keep your little guy on the top of the screen from going too far left, or your run will end.
Keys:
Key tiles are used to unlock chests. Each lock needs its own row of three key tiles. Four in row unlocks two locks.
Sword:
Sword tiles are for physical attacks against enemies. They’re also used to disarm physical traps. Some enemies are immune to physical attacks.
Staff:
Staff tiles are for magic attacks against enemies and certain traps. Some enemies are immune to magic.
Shield:
Shield tiles create a temporary shield that gives your character extra defense.
Thought & Power:
Thought and Power tiles are mostly for collecting the currencies that can be used for upgrades, purchases and recruiting monsters.
Upgrading Weapons, Shield and Spells:
Once you take on the right crew members as passengers, you’ll be able to pay a fee to upgrade your sword, staff, shield and spells. Thy each have different aspects that can be upgraded separately.
*Note: After paying for an upgrade, you need to quickly tap the icon until the bar below it fills up. I’m not sure why, but you do.
If you don’t disarm a Freeze trap in time and you get frozen, you need to make matches to unfreeze.
Blink Dust:
Blink Dust allows you to teleport instantly to any crew members on your ship so you can save time walking.
You can replay any of the levels you completed at any point. Just use the arrows when you try to start a run.
Crate Bomb:
If you get a quest that wants you to break more than 10 crates using a Crate Bomb, it’s referring to the Tile Bomb in your library. You need to use it to break more than ten crate tiles at once.
Map:
This is what the map looks like at the end:
I completed the game with 33 monsters. There was still a few empty rooms on my boat, and there are some secret monsters to collect.
Secret Collect:
It turns out there are some secret monsters you can collect by achieving certain goals.
Catapult: I got it when I filled out a large part of my library.
Geltower: I got it by eating food when I was fighting Geltower.
Wraith: I got this after using a lot of magic spells.
Skeleton King: I got this guy from selling a lot of stuff to Saundi (the broker).
Robber: When you start up the game, your character will be sleeping in bed. Tap very quickly a bunch of times until you get the robber.
Dragon: Play the Gallery level (the final one) and tap on the portrait of the dragon. You can see what it looks like below.
Ninja: Select the Pagoda level so the background changes to the Pagoda. Don’t start the level. Instead, look at the scenery to the side of the boat and find the Ninja. He is hiding and will be hard to see. Tap on him to get him.

Hi,
Wat is the point in starting over again and again the game? I am actually at 4 combos, but can’t see any of the “leveling”. The cutscenes are just a little faster and the game say itself that it is a little harder.. anything else?
