This is a complete step-by-step walkthrough with answers, solutions and help for Section 4 of the iOS and Android game The Guides. I will explain all the answers, so only look if you don’t mind spoilers. If you prefer to have a hint, you can ask in the comments section.

Section 4:

4-1: Hint: numbers

Solution: Go back to level 3-16 and find all the numbers. Put them in the right order to match the colors in 4-1 and you get 8945.

4-2: No hint.

Solution: The key is the answer to 4-1. You have 8945. So tap the 8th symbol, then the 9th, 4th, 5th. Then I was left with only one symbol. Tap it to continue to the next level.

4-3: Hint: xxxx
Solution: Go back to 4-2 and keep the hint box open as you press the symbols. You’ll get x=T, x=E, x=S, and x=T. Put them together to get TEST.

4-4: Hint: 8945
Solution: Insert 8945 into the numbers-to-letters decoder and you get HIDE.

4-5: Hint: Blinking “i”
Solution: Notice that there are two layers here and you can drag one up and down. Turn your device to landscape mode and line up the pieces so they say GLITCH.

4-6: Hint: Blinking “t”
Solution: Slide right to see a chart labeled “Warning: Data Fragmentation”. The letters from GLITCH are scrambled in this chart. If you go through each number on the main page and see where they meet ( 7 & 9, 6 & 6, 8 & 3, etc), most of them result in a blank. But notice the locations of the letters that do exist. The blanks represent the rest of the alphabet. So plug them in (79, 66, 83, 69, 82, 86, 65, 84, 73, 79, 78) and you get the word OBSERVATION.

4-7: Hint: [1]
Solution: Notice the numbers in the upper right corner: 83 72 73 70 84. Translate them into letters using the same key from 4-6. You then get SHIFT. There’s also a new decoder available which will give you the same answer.

4-8: Hint: double-conversion
Solution: If you swipe right, it says “Use Bypass to Proceed.” Bypass is the red line made of dashes. So follow it to see the four symbols you need to pay attention to. They’re &!$%.
Then, use the SHIFT (answer to 4-7) button on the game’s keyboard to see which numbers on the keyboard would be &!$%. You end up with 6145. Enter that in the 1 >> a decoder to get FADE.

4-9: Hint: Settings
Solution: Go back to 4-7 and look at the part that says “Settings.” Make note of the X’s. Back on 4-9, move each of the sliders to those positions. The word “REPEATED” will appear at the top.

4-10: Hint: x ΓÇó x
Solution: If you drag the letters, you can see more of them. It says ICDNOITOSERTRDRFIAENCRATETINEOCSNE. The hint of x ΓÇó x is telling you to cross off those every first and third letter. You end up with COORDINATES.

4-11: Hint: rearrange
Solution: Go back to level 2-14 and find all the letters shown in 4-11. You get ABCDELMNRSU. The hint said rearrange them. You then get UNSCRAMBLED.

4-12: Hint: Blinking “m”
Solution: Swipe right to see:

var n :: key
var i :: input length

c1 = ‘BLACK’
c2 = ‘GOLD’

n = sumAll(‘c1, c2’)
i = sumAll(‘c2’)

The black ones are ABMRU, 5 letters.
The gold ones are CDELNS, 6 letters.

If you add them up to get n, it’s 11. 11 is the key, or number you need for the shift decoder. “Input length” is the letters you need to use with the decoder. The golden dots are corresponding to the letters C, D, E, N, L and S, shift 11 to get RSTCAH. Rearrange them to get CHARTS. (Thanks to Emilie.)

4-13: Hint: [A2] [D4] [E2] [B1]
Solution: A2 = SI, D4 = LE, E2 = NC, B1 = ED. That gives you SILENCED.

4-14: Hint: Blinking “p”
Solution: Swipe right to see:

“Recalibrate Data:

Using the chart from 4-13′ you can figure out E5 is EN and C5 is AL. But G7 and D6 are not on that chart. Apparently, you’re supposed to get “northwest” or NW from the morse code in the background. But maybe the spot on the map on the computer is also saying northwest? Not sure — it’s a little too cryptic for me. But either way, you need to move two spots left and two spots up for each of the coordinates. SO SUBTRACT 2 from each number and letter toget C3, A3, E5, B4. That gives you EL, EM, EN, TS, or ELEMENTS.

Answer: ELEMENTS

4-15: Hint: 97 7 16 1
Solution: This is the Periodic Table of Elements. Find those four numbers on it. 97 = BK, 7 = N, 16 = S, and 1 = H. Then, notice it says KEY under N at the top, which is #10. So take the letters BKNSH and shift them 10 using the decoder to get RADIX.

Answer: RADIX

4-16: Hint: [4F 5A] [4E 4E] [4E 5A] [4D 5A]
Solution: Slide right and find those coordinates on the chart. So you get:
[O Z] [N N] [N Z] [M Z]

Plug those into the equations on the first page and use the == decoder and then the 1 >> a decoder to get:

O Z = 9 = I
N N = 4 = D
N Z = 5 = E
M Z = 1 = A

Answer: IDEA

4-17: Hint: H E ” X
Solution: Notice 6.9 is underlined. The atomic mass of the missing element is 6.9. If you look at the table of elements, Li has a mass of 6.9. Plug that into the hint where you see ” and you get HELIX.

4-18: Blinking “s”
Solution: Line up the two sides of the helix so the symbols match up and you get two letters or numbers on each line, like in the photo below. You then get 6A, 6F, 75, 72, 6E, 65, 79, 73. You should now have a new decoder labeled 0x. Type in all those numbers into the decoder and you get JOURNEYS.

Solution: Slide right to see this:

Go back to level 4-9. Set the sliders to LLRLRLRLR and the word ASTERISM appears.

4-20: Hint: Blinking “k”
Solution: There are multiple layers here. Notice that there are four static circles in the four corners of the screen. Drag each layer around to match those circles until you get the constellation Orion.

4-21: Hint: Blinking “y”
Solution: Go back and look at level 4-10 again. Fill in all the letters in the spaces, using the letters from 4-10 and going in threes, top to bottom. It will spell out INTERFERENCE COORDINATES DISTRACTION. Next, pick out the letters with numbers under them and put them in numerical order. You’ll get INTERCONNECTED.

Answer: INTERCONNECTED

4-22: Hint: [3]
Solution: Notice the Morse code. -Γò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£Γöé- is K, Γò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£Γöé is E, -Γò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£Γöé– is Y, and Γò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£ΓöéΓò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£ΓöéΓò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£ΓöéΓò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£Γöé- is 4. Put them together and you get KEY4. Swipe right to see:

(1) position = ‘LEFT’
(2) position = ‘RIGHT’
(3) position = ‘LEFT’
(4) position = ‘LEFT’
(5) position = ‘RIGHT’
(6) position = ‘RIGHT’
(7) position = ‘RIGHT’
(8) position = ‘LEFT’

Go back to level 4-13 and match the gold boxes to the boxes in the chart. I overlapped them in the image below. You then get C1, E3, D5 and A4. The letters in those boxes are VI, ZI, VW, IH.

Use the Shift decoder with VIZIVWIH and shift to 4 (KEY4). You get REVERSED.

Answer: REVERSED


4-23: Hint: [4]
Solution: Pay attention to the highlighted letters: NO, IS, SECRETNESS, A, POT. Using the answer from 4-22, reverse those letters and you get TO PASS ENTER CESSION.

    What I’ve figured out so far for 4.02:

    There are 26 different symbols. Every symbol appears in each part of the sequence at some point (after taking about 50 pictures). Sometimes symbols will repeat 2 or 3 times in a sequence, sometimes there will be be a sequence with entirely different symbols. So far, taking random pictures shows no discernible pattern. Common design features are dots, dashes, and arrows with two exceptions: “0x4d” and “51” contained in a hexagon (unless you want to count the structure of the individual letters/numbers or the sides of the hexagon). However I did discover that the answer isn’t “fuck,” in case you were wondering.

      Actually it’s not so complicated as your thought. The answer for the first question is 8945, which means that in 4.02 you just need to tap the 8th, 9th, 4th and the 5th symbol, and tap the remained symbol when 9 of them are disappeared

    4.8: convert those 4 symbols into numbers 6145 if looking up your keyboard, however that doesn’t make sense since the “6” key corresponds to the symbol “^”, not ampersand…Still looking for another clue

    When you swipe left, it says “Use bypass to proceed.” Bypass is the dashed line, which gets you 9 10 6 3, and I’ve been playing around with that. Fun fact, the temperatures on 2.25 decode to “hyperspace.”

    I got 4.8, but probably not the way I was supposed to. First, put & ! $ % into the decoder labeled “ii” to convert the symbols to their ASCII codes. That gives 38 33 36 37. Then pretend all the 3s are 8s and convert the numbers to letters using the table from 4.6, to get XSVW.

    After that, I put it into a rot-n website and found that a shift of 18 gives you “FADE”, which is the solution. I have no idea where the 18 should’ve come from.

      sum the ones place and the tens place of each number until it becomes one digit.
      3+8=11, 1+1=2
      3+3=6
      3+6=9
      3+7=10, 1+0=1
      and then sum up them 2+6+9+1=18

      It didn’t need that shift…but the shift on the keyboard…simply match the symbols with the numbers to 6145 and use the decoder to get fade

    About 4-6, according to my experience, the blinking letter is related to the compendium app. But the Author said that the section 4 is different from other three sections, it may show more clues when you reopen it. SO…I’m still working on it.

      Yeah, the blinking letters usually have other purposes. Still trying to make sense of 4-6.

        4.06 is similar to other puzzles with pairs of numbers.

        The blanks are represented as letters due to the alignment of GHI. So the answer is OBSERVATION.

    Throw away one letter
    Take one letter and write it down/add it to the answer
    Throw away another letter

    Then repeat over the whole sequence

      These black dots are corresponding to some of the letters in the semaphore chart in 2-14. Find them and rearrange them and you will get the answer, which is “unscrambled”

    4-12: From the source code, the n value (the total amount of the black and golden dots) is 11 and the i value (the amount of the golden dots) is 6. This shows that the Caesar shift key number is 11, and INPUT LENGTH is the key for the answer. The golden dots are corresponding to the letters C, D, E, N, L and S, shift 11 to get RSTCAH, and rearrange them to get the answer CHARTS

    4.13: The distress signal hint and the morse code in the background both say “nw” or “northwest”. Use the letter chart from 4.13, and shift the inputs “northwest” until they line up (shift letters towards A and numbers towards 1). You’ll get [C4] [A3] [E5] [B4], which decodes to “ELEMENTS” using the chart.

      How did you get the morse code? I tried decoding those lines and dashes in the top part of the photo but didn’t get anything.

        The morse code is a sound effect in the background. Its going very fast, so I couldn’t tell exactly what it was saying, but it sounds like it could be “NW” or “2” (depending on where you put the spaces between letters).

          Ah thanks. I wonder if there’s another way to figure that out? Other levels with sound cues usually had some visual cue as well.

    On 4-14, the morse code comes out to “KEY4”, I’m wondering if that has anything to do with 4-15 (which I’m currently on). Anyone?

    4.15: Look up the numbers in the hint on the periodic table to get BKNSH. At the top of the table is the symbol for neon, with atomic number 10, which is labeled “key”. Shift BKNSH by 10 to get the answer, which is RADIX.

    4.16: Look up the number-letter pairs on the new table, you will get [OZ][NN][NZ][MZ]. Then use the [==] decoder to get [9,4,5,1]. Translate them into letters to get the answer IDEA.

    Oh in 4.17 you use the ” clue in the level title and find where it corresponds on the page and what else is highlighted in the same colour. I inverted my colours on my phone and it shows as light blue when you zoom in on the page. Then use the elements table to decipher and input it into the H E ” L

    4-23: Reverse those highlighted letters. It says “To pass enter cession”. Answer: CESSION.
    4-24: A tricky one. There are 4 settings in section 4, which are 01010110 (4-7:[1]), 00101010 (4-19:[2]), 01001110 (4-22:[3]), and 01010101 (4-23:[4]). According to 4-24, first you convert them with the binary decoder to get “V * N U”. Then use the ASCII decoder on “*”, you get “42”. The clue says “Z=ii(’42’)”, which means “*” is actually “Z”. So now the code is “V Z N U”. The last step is to shift the code by the key “x”. I tried some numbers. When x=5, the answer is QUIP. Don’t know why yet, but when 4-9 is set to 01001110 and 01010101, you get “0x41″(A) and “0x42″(B). Why “A+B=X=5”? Anyone?
    4-25: Those symbols are letters based on 2-14. Follow the lines you can easily get the answer INVENTOR.

      For why A+B=X=5, here’s my guess:
      When converting the binary codes in 4-24 for lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 , as you note line 2 decodes to 42, which then decodes to B using the 0x decoder.
      And as you also note, for line 3 when set in 4-9, it equates to 0x41 or A.
      So B is line 2, A is line 3, so A(3)+B(2)=5.

        Simpler than that. 41+42=83. Use 83 as the shift and you get the same result, because 83 modulo 26 is 5.

      Go back to the garbled text from 4.10 (ICDNOITOSERTRDRFIAENCRATETINEOCSNE). Get a sheet of paper and write it as 3 different rows. Write one letter in the top row, then one in the middle, then one in the bottom row, and repeat. You’ll know you’ve done it correctly if the middle row spells “COORDINATES”. Then just line up the numbers with the letters in the top and bottom rows, The first letter of the answer is the second letter of the bottom row, and so on.

      The binary code means how to set the slides in 4-9. 0 is LEFT, 1 is RIGHT. When those slides are set to LLRLRLRL, the word ASTERISM appears. That’s the answer.

    For 4-24
    >> First, find the level in section 4 with [1], [2], [3], [4] in the hint sidetab
    which is level 7, 19, 22, 23
    >> Then find the setting code (the binary ones / left = 0 and right = 1)
    so the results are
    [1] – 01010110
    [2] – 00101010
    [3] – 01001110
    [4] – 01010101 (this code is between the lines in the paper and it’s little bit hard to find it)
    >> Next, change these codes using the binary decipher and you’ll get 4 alphabets (3 alphabets and 1 sign, actually)
    01010110 – V
    00101010 – * (there is also a trick in this part; if you slide to the right page, you’ll see the message Z = ii’42’ and if you use ASCII decipher for 42 it,ll turn into * sign. So it means that you have to change the * into Z)
    01001110 – N
    01010101 – U
    >> Finally, you have to shift the ‘VZNU’ to get the final answer. In 4-23 it has the message at the top of the paper. It says “A + B = X”. This time you need to turn the A and B into the numbers using 0x decipher and they’re 41 and 42. If you add them up, to 83, and change it back using the same decipher, it will show you the letter ‘S’ and it’s looks like number 5. So now you got the key for shifting. After shifting, VZNU will become QUIP and that’s it!

      I forgot to explain why you need to change A and B with 0x decipher.
      If you use the settings code [3] and [4] in level 4-9, the message “0x41” and “0x42” will appear on the upper screen.
      0x41 means you have to change ’41’ with 0x decipher and it turns into ‘A’.
      Same as 0x42 -> B.

      You don’t have to get so intuitive to get the shift key. In fact, the shift key isn’t directly 5 at all. The shift key is 83. 83 modulo 26 (i.e., the remainder left over after dividing 83 by 26) is 5, which means that if you shift a letter 83 positions, it will go around the alphabet and back to itself three times, then be shifted another 5 positions. That’s why 5 works, but it’s not actually the “correct” shift key.

    Little known facts::

    If you shift the blinking letters in hint sidetabs (‘ITMPSKYI’) using KEY4, it will become the words ‘EPILOGUE’.

    4-24
    L.Pleng.S has it right with only one small correction: If you put “NU” into the base 64 decoder (==), you get “5”, which is the right key to shift by. The setting that gets you “N” shows the hex code for A and the setting that gets you “U” shows the hex code for B. Therefore A+B is “NU”.

    4-25
    The images are semaphore encoded letters. This encoding looks like clock faces. You can look it up online, but it is also referenced in section 2 where a puzzle includes all the letters of the alphabet with their semaphore encodings as well.

    The answer is “inventor”.

    I’ve just completed all four sections, and I find COM-1,2,3 and 5 at the end of each section.
    And title of COM-5 is ERROR.
    I’m not sure if there’s a way that enables us to find COM-4.
    Anyone having ideas?

    So in each page of levels 1-6, 1-20, 2-5, 2-11, 3-2, 3-20 there are some letters down in each one. If you take individually the letters aQ, ZQ, Zw, bQ, aQ, bg and translate them in the == decoder you get IEGMIN. If you put them in the right order you get GEMINI. I dont know if it can be used somewhere but sure worth checking it.

    If you use the left-right things in 4.22 for 4.9 it says 0x41. Haven’t figured out what that means yet.

    Also, if you hold your phone in landscape mode in 4.22 you can see some morse code which translates to k6q. I don’t know if that means anything.

    If you set the sliders in 4-9 to 01010101 it says 0x42 (NOT 0x41, which it says if you do it according to 22). This level reminds me of 30 from axiom.

    It gave me a “key”. A series of characters like some sort of a password. Idk if it differs to all. What is that for? Thank you!

    The blinking letters throughout the whole game in the hínts are the words to enter in the final level:

    itmpskyi (using KEY4 translates to epilogue)

    If you use the sequence LRLLRRRL from 4-22 on 4-9 it outputs 0x41, didn’t notice it mentioned where that’d be used or if it has any meaning
