Whispers of a Machine: Complete Walkthrough Guide – All Paths

Walkthrough:

Intro to Basics | Day 1 Locker Room | Rest of Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4

Day 2:

1. Try to leave your room. You’ll learn a new ability depending on which personality trait you encouraged. For Empathetic you get Amnesia, for Assertive you get Energize, and for Analytical you get Enhanced Vision.

2. There’s been another murder! Gabriel fills you in. It’s Lennart Dahl, the head of the new recycling center. You’ll automatically head over there.

3. Talk to Gabriel. Ask him about Katarina Melinda Berg and he’ll say that the only Melinda in town is the school teacher. Vera will tell him to take her into custody.

4. Talk to the witness. It turns out Lennart was killed in the organics processor!

5. Open the door of the processor and look inside. There’s some human remains trapped in the grinding gears. Use your Smart Scanner on them to collect Lennart’s Bio for the data vault. You’ll also learn that he was dead before he went into the grinder, so it wasn’t an accident!

6. Read the instructions if you’d like. The witness is too distraught to talk, but we need to figure out how to retract the gears. Here’s how:

Amnesia: Use Amnesia on him to get him to relax. Then ask him how to get something out of the organics processor without incinerating it first. He says to unplug the yellow cable. The yellow cable is hard to unplug, so use Vera’s Muscle Boost to do it. Then flip the switch to turn on the machine. Use the control panel to retract the grinding gears.

Energize: Use Energize on the control panel on the processor. It will retract the gears for a couple of seconds. Talk to Gabriel and ask him to jam something in there while you power it up. He agrees. Now to find something. There’s a pipe in the trolly next to the left machine. Pick it up. Then give it to Gabriel and he’ll get ready to jam the gears. Use Energize on the control panel again and quickly tap/click on Gabriel to tell him to jam it.

Enhanced Vision: Look inside the door at the gears again. Use your Enhance Vision in the Darkness to see that the yellow cable leads to the gears. The yellow cable is hard to unplug, so use Vera’s Muscle Boost to do it. Then flip the switch to turn on the machine. Use the control panel to retract the grinding gears.

7. Look inside the machine again. There’s a key inside the remains! Grab it. Vera will tell Gabriel that he can leave and that Dr. Persson can come and collect the remains.

8. Use Lennart’s Bio to scan for DNA all over the room. Flip the switch on the left machine. Some metal objects will move onto the belt. They’re ready to be smelted/recycled. Some appear to be knives! Use the Blade Shape scanner on them to see that one matches the shape of the blade that killed Maja and Karl. Pick up the knife.

9. Head to the door. Alex will appear again! Then leave the recycling center.

10. Talk to the street artist. You basically just have a way here to boost one of your personality traits.

11. Head back to Mimir Road. Check in on the artificial womb. The red light is blinking again. Check the chamber status to learn that it’s out of nutrients. So we need to keep an eye out for some.

12. Head back to the town square and then go right to the shopping district. Enter the Robot Shop. Talk to Valter and his annoying robot named Nisse. Ask him about everything, especially Katarina. He says he might be able to help if you can find a better photo of her.

13. Go back to the town square and enter the school. No one’s here, but there are some photographs of the teachers on the wall. Use the torn photo you have of Melinda/Katarina to compare it to the photos and find the one of her.

14. Head back to the town square. Show Valter the photo of Melinda/Katarina. He tells you he’s seen her hanging around the junk heap.

15. Now head over to the Junk Heap. A boy and girl are hanging out there. Talk to them. It turns out Melinda/Katarina is their teacher. Ask them about everything to see what they know. They say they don’t know where Katarina/Melinda is. But if you use your Biometric Analyzer while asking about her, there’s an anomaly. Tap/click on it. Theo won’t let Alicia say anything.

16. Now it’s time to use you’re special abilities.

Amnesia: Use Amnesia on Theo. Now you can talk to Alicia alone. She’ll tell you to look for a fridge in the junk heap. Head into the junk heap. Inspect the old fridge to find a switch. It’s a secret passage! Go through. Tap on the fence. It’s electrified, so we need to find someone who knows about electronics.

Energize: Use Energize on Alicia. She’ll be ready to get up. They’ll both head deeper into the junk heap. Follow them. Get near Alicia and use your Biometric Analyzer on her. Tap the lock to lock it on her. Now you can move around the junk heap and see if she reacts to anything. It’s the fridge! Select the anomaly and open the fridge. Go through. Tap on the gate. It’s electrified, so we need to find someone who knows about electronics.

Enhanced Vision: Notice that when you move away from Theo, he takes out a map. Use your Enhanced Vision on it to see that there’s a secret passage through the fridge. Head into the junkyard and interact with the fridge to find the hidden switch and open the fridge. Go through. Tap on the gate. It’s electrified, so you can’t go through yet. Examine the pneumatic arm near the door. You’ll see a sticker on the transformer that says “215V to 240V.” Notice the dark area ahead of you. Use your Enhanced Vision on it to see a sign at the end of the cable that says “230V to 240V.” We should probably find someone who knows about electronics.

17. Go back to Valter and ask him about the electrified gate. He tells you he can’t help you right now, but to ask Lisa, the worker who was standing near the museum.

18. Head back to the town entrance. We can finally go into the museum! Check it out if you want, but right now the important thing is to talk to Lisa outside. Here’s another point where the different abilities come into play.

Amnesia: Lisa says she can only help you after the power box is fixed. Use Amnesia on Lisa to make her forget about the power box. Now you can ask her for help again and she’ll cut the power to the electrified gate, but only briefly. Meet her at the door near the junk yard and she’ll explain it to you.

Energize: Lisa says she can only help you after the power box is fixed. Just Energize the power box and Lisa will take a break. Talk to her again and she’ll agree to help you. She can cut the power but only briefly. Meet her at the door near the junk yard and she’ll explain it to you.

Enhanced Vision: Lisa gives you the key to the power station near the junk yard. So head back to the junk yard and use the key on the door nearby. Now you have access to the power console. There’s a bunch of wires. First, flip the switch (main breaker) on the right side of it to shut off the power. Next, we need to somehow arrange the wires so the voltage is low enough to shut off the electric gate but high enough to open the fridge door. The fridge door is 215V to 240V and the gate is 230V to 240V, so we need to get it somewhere between 215V and 225V. The way it works is each wire connected from one top to one bottom screw adds to the voltage number. For example, 100 connected to -20 adds 80 to the total voltage. Horizontal cables don’t add anything to the total. If you need help, just copy my screenshot, which makes 215V. I connected 100 to -20, 40 to -10, 35 to -5, 125 to -50, and -35 to -15. Vera will tell you if the number is right. Make sure to turn the power back on before you leave.

19. Go through the fridge. If you have Enhanced Vision, the gate is completely powered off, so just use your Muscle Boost to open it. If you have Amnesia or Energize, Lisa is apparently not as skilled as you are and can only shut it for a brief moment. So crawl up to the gate and wait until you see the electricity shut off. Then quickly use your Muscle Boost to open the gate. Go through and then exit through the other side of the tunnel to find a little cabin.

20. If you approach the door, Melinda/Katarina shoots at you. If you don’t react, she’ll kill you. There are several ways to solve this.

You can surprise her first by turning on your Biometric Analyzer before she ever appears and then walking down a bit (not right!). You’ll sense someone down there who is tense. Interact with the pile of junk near Melinda to disarm her.

You can use your gun on her to wound her before she shoots you again.

Or you can tap on her and talk her down. Mention here baby: “You’re desperate… Is this because of the baby? I can help.” It’ll talk her down.

Then she’ll talk to you. She tells you everything and asks you to replace the nutrient canister for the baby. Apparently there’s one in the museum area. She also tells you about the Free Church of EPOS. Find out everything else she knows. If you show her the photo of her and Karl, she asks for it. You can then decide whether to give it to her or not. I did.

21. On the way back, if you talk to Lisa again through the door by the Junk Heap (only if you have Amnesia or Energize), you’ll gain some Empathy points.

22. Ok this next part is kind of crazy because I’m not sure the game really tells you that there’s a hidden room in the museum. But there is! It’s hinted at in Day 1 if you ask Sven about Maja. But it’s easy to forget that by now. Perhaps the “Path of the Pilgrim” sketch in Maja’s apartment is the clue. But once you know that it exists, it’s not too difficult to figure out how to open it. The clues are in the Conduit Codex book, The Pilgrim’s Prayer. It says:

I. I am invigorated by my faith.
II. I gaze at the skies, to ensure that the path is clear.
III. I strike down my foes, blessed with impeccable aim.
IV. I’m nearing my goal, and I press on for another full day.

Ok, so each verse is referring to one of the pieces in the exhibit. They all have buttons you can press.

The first one is the Healing Tank. It invigorates you.

The second one is the Star Map. Because you’re looking up at the skies.

The third one is the Military Robot, because he shoots a laser.

And the fourth is the Globe. You need to press the button four times to get a full day’s rotation.

A secret door will open! Go through.

23. Grab the empty nutrient canister. Also, grab the cassette tapes. Play the tapes in the audio station. They’re of Maya talking about AI and a goddess named Huldra. Look around as much as you want and then leave.

24. Go back to Maja’s apartment and fill the canister with the green nutrient liquid.

25. Go back to apartment 113 and put the canister in the receptacle. Now you can decide whether to come up with a nickname for the baby. I chose Munchkin.

26. Alex’s Ghost shows up again. Choose what to say to him.

27. Leave the apartment and you’ll be on the balcony again. Fill Stina Booth in on what you learned. Again, choose what to say and then leave to complete Day 2.

Realy cool walkthrough, thank you. I don’t have Amnesia perk so gotta find for myself how to go on (

    1. AppUnwrapper

IΓÇÖm playing through the game again and taking the Assertive route, so will update my walkthrough as I play. Will likely do the same for Analytical. But I believe most of the puzzles are the same, just the abilities get the job done in slightly different ways.

    2. Deirdre

I have amnesia, but I don’t have mimicry, so the existing walkthroughs I’ve found don’t help me on day 4, step 9. Still haven’t figured it out. Those with better sight seem to be able to see the electrical plug, but my Vera can’t, so that’s another thing.

  2. PN mitty

I have an Energize power from my pathway and now IΓÇÖm stuck on how to get pass to the hidden door behind the fridge in the junk heap. Any ideas anyone? I used the Energize power on the girl and now both the girl and the boy are inside the junk heap. But I canΓÇÖt seem to proceed further. (Already done nutrient fill up for the baby and opened the hidden room in the museum).

    1. AppUnwrapper

IΓÇÖm replaying the game on the Assertive route now, so IΓÇÖll update my walkthrough as I play to add the other abilities. If no one else helps you before then, just hold tight!

      1. Nowhere Girl

So you will be updating the walkthrough, yes? Thanks a lot in advance. Your walkthrough for “Unavowed” was already really helpful.

        1. AppUnwrapper

Yup! IΓò¼├┤Γö£├ºΓö£├╗ve already updated it for Assertive through Day 2. 🙂

          1. Nowhere Girl

I don’t see the update, still only the walkthrough for the Empathetic solution is displayed. Is it under the same link?

            1. AppUnwrapper

Yeah, IΓÇÖm adding alternate solutions throughout. Try refreshing the page or clearing your cache if youΓÇÖre not seeing the changes. IΓÇÖm already working on Day 4 for Assertive. Will add Analytical when I start another game.

              1. Nowhere Girl

I’m having some problems with accessing the right pages. First, “Day 1 – Locker Room” would link to “Rest of Day 1”, and now the link takes me to Day 3 instead of Day 2… I’ll try accessing it again from history.
Edit: More about the problem: if I’m on a day-page earlier than Day 2, the link to Day 2 takes me to Day 3. If I’m on a page later than Day 2, the link takes me to “Rest of Day 1”.

                1. AppUnwrapper

I broke up the pages so that the augmentation descriptions get their own page. Try refreshing the page if youΓÇÖre not getting the right one. There are six pages now, and you can also change the number in the URL. They should be:

                  1 – Intro to Basics
                  2 – Locker Room
                  3 – Rest of Day 1
                  4 – Day 2
                  5 – Day 3
                  6 – Day 4

    2. Elyse

Lock your target on the girl when you are scanning her heart rate, then walk towards the fridge.

  3. Gaia

IΓÇÖm a bit stuck. IΓÇÖm in the commissaryΓÇÖs office disguised as Kalle, but the ΓÇÿgardenΓÇÖ tack isnΓÇÖt getting me anywhere. I donΓÇÖt get ΓÇÿsonΓÇÖs asthmaΓÇÖ as an option. The only options I have are ΓÇÿherbs for the patientΓÇÖ or ΓÇÿveg for dinnerΓÇÖ. IΓÇÖve scoured your walkthrough, but I canΓÇÖt see anything IΓÇÖve missed.

Empathetic path, if it matters (IΓÇÖm not sure that it does).

    1. AppUnwrapper

ThatΓÇÖs weird. Did you stick around in the patient room long enough to hear Kalle and the other guard chatting?

    2. bleurte

You need to get back to the patient room in the clinic and listen to the conversation two guards are having. Kalle will mention his sick kid and the herbal medications he uses. After that, get back to commissary’s office and the option will appear.

  4. bleurte

I’ve just finished the game and this walkthrough helped a lot! Thanks!
I LOVED the game. Would love to explore more of this kind!

    1. AppUnwrapper

      Glad to help! 🙂
And have you played Technobabylon or Unavowed?

      1. Evilcow21

Just finished game as well. Played it in one sitting without meaning to. Game was amazing and this was a great walkthrough. IΓÇÖd second the recommendation for the Unavowed that game was one of the most amazing IΓÇÖve ever played. As much as I love this game, I think I like the Unavowed just a little more.

    2. Teta

Technobabylon (2 endings), Primordia (about 5 endings) and Shardlight (3 endings) for scifi adventures. Unavowed and the whole Blackwell series for more spiritual… or supernatural ghost adventures. Or short, just anything from Wadjet Eye Games and Dave Gilbert 😉

  5. Gaia

I posted a comment the other day, but it seems to have vanished. My dialogue options for talking to Gabriel as Kalle seem to be completely different, I have no ΓÇÿasthmaΓÇÖ choice, instead I have asking for herbs for the patient and vegetables for dinner, neither of which have the desired effect. IΓÇÖve been back through the walkthrough, but I canΓÇÖt find anything that I might have missed to give me that dialogue choice.

    I’ve obviously missed something…

    1. AppUnwrapper

Have you listened in on Kalle and the other guard as much as possible? I donΓÇÖt know what else it could be. When I played, the option was just there.

If nothing works, IΓÇÖd say contact the developer in case itΓÇÖs a bug.

  6. jlo909

Can anyone help… I’m on Day 4 but I think I’ve broken the game. I went to the commissary’s office and asked to go in the garden, but didn’t realise what I needed to do til it was too late, and now Vera won’t talk to Gabriel again so I can’t mimic him. Completely stuck, doesnt seem like there’s a way out of it. I have Amnesia and Mimicry.

    1. AppUnwrapper

Sounds like it might be a bug? You should contact the developer.

  7. garwan

I chose the Fenrir option and chose to keep the baby after realizing it has no one else. It was a short but good adventure game, I’m curious about what happens if you chose other options if someone is kind enough to share the other endings!

  8. Terry

    Help
I know where the fridge door switch is but I can’t open it

  9. Barnabas Berki

Hi, please help me. I’m stucked on day2, i play in the assertive path. I need a better picture from Melinda, I need to go to school, but I can’t enter. Why?

  10. Lfrohling

    Thank u soooo much!!!

  11. KSS

Hey; about Day 2 point 22: the secret room is actually mentioned, albeit indirectly, when you ask Rolf about Maja on Day 1.

    1. AppUnwrapper

I think they might have added that later due to feedback.

  12. KSS

Indeed, it was Sven, not Rolf. Hazy memory 🙂

  13. KSS

Btw, just replaying the game; there’s another hint about the importance of the museum displays when you ask the children about Maja on day2.

  14. matt

Thanks AppUnwrapper, a really good walk though for a really fun game.

  15. Fox

Do you have to minmax Vera’s personality traits? I just started this game, and I feel like I should be able to vary my approach based on circumstances, like any good cop would. Will it hurt my game if I do this? Do I have to go strictly with one trait or can I mix it up?
