The White Door: Basement Achievement (ARG) Walkthrough Guide

The White Door
By: Rusty Lake / Second Maze

The White Door is the latest point-and-click adventure game from Rusty Lake. It ties into the whole Cube Escape and Rusty Lake universe. It’s generally easier than their previous games, but if you get stuck, this walkthrough guide should help you. This section is for the Basement. Feel free to ask for extra help in the comments section.

Walkthrough:

Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 5 | Day 6 | Day 7 | Sarah | Basement | Achievements Guide

Basement:

NOTE: This is getting very long, so I’m splitting it into pages, as follows:

Website Clues | Test Answers & Hack | Doctor Login & Patient Info on Site | Basement Access in Game | Prisoner Names & Codes

Now that it’s January 22nd, we can access the Basement! This is how you do it:

During DREAM 3, if you do everything necessary to get the achievement, you’ll see a phone number on the TV. Call that number — +31202443854 — on a real phone and Mr. Owl will answer and tell you that the White Door is closed right now, but to visit http://www.mentalhealthandfishing.com/ after January 22nd.

First, watch this video uploaded to the Rusty Lake Youtube channel:

The video is about the body of Dr. Hoorn being found. At the end of the video, you see a black cube and some words being read backwards. If you reverse them, you get the numbers 7281003. This was used to unlock Robert Hill’s location on the map (see below) and no longer has a use.

You can try emailing them using the email address on their Contact page: [email protected]

There’s this interview with Dr. Hoorn:

If you copy the empty space after “Personally, I am a great art lover. I often visit museums and galleries, I have a particular interest in Van Gogh’s work:”

It says: “Bedroom in Arles

It’s referring to Cube Escape: Arles, and I’ll explain further down where it’s used.

It also tells you that Dr. Hoorn’s daughter’s name is Kirsten Hoorn. And it turns out she has her own YouTube channel! Here’s a video of her father playing ping pong:

She also has an Instagram account that provides other information that we need.

There’s also the About Us page:

The photo above the test shows the person checking off the first box, so the answer to the first question is the first box (or 1).

There’s another test answer on the Contact page image. If you open the photo in a new window, you can see it’s named photo_caring(2).png. It tells you that the answer to Question 2 is the first box.

Dr. J. Gonzalez has an X on his shirt pocket, which is another clue for the test. If you open the photo in a new window, you can it’s named gonzales3_5.jpg. He’s the 5th doctor on the page, so check off the 5th box for Question 3.

Figure 4 under Research mentions “cross the line” and the red and blue lines cross at 3, so that’s how we know that the answer to Question 4 is 3.

This photo under Research is another clue for the test. If you open the image in a new window, you can see it’s named photo_research(5).png. It tells you that the answer to Question 5 is the fourth box.

Figure 6 under Research looks like Braille.

It says:

ABLACK
CUBE

A BLACK CUBE! The answer to Question 6 on the test is A BLACK CUBE.

For Figure 7, note down the number for each bar and then translate it to a letter in the alphabet. So you get:

5, 14, 12, 9, 7, 8, 20, 5, 14, 13, 5, 14, 20

That spells out ENLIGHTENMENT, so the answer to question 7 on the test is ENLIGHTENMENT.

For question 8, view page source (html code) of the services page. You’ll see the code pictured below.

The decoding works this way: take 6th letter of Medit’a’tion = A, 1st letter of ‘C’ognitive Stimulation therapy = C, and so on. You will get A CABIN AT A LAKE. That’s the answer to Question 8 on the test!

Under Testimonials, look at the last one by Ursule Lasnick (9). The 9 tells you it’s the answer to the 9th question. And if you circle all the first letters of each sentence, you get MY CORRUPTED SOUL.

On the Homepage, you can see the text, “the past is Never Dead.” So the answer to Question 10 is NEVER DEAD.

Click on the little numbers below to continue to the next page of the walkthrough or click here.

    figure (7) in the research means ‘enlightenment’. 1 to a, 2 to b … 26 to z

  2. nXs

    On the interview pdf file
There’s a space after the text “interest in van gogh work: ”

The Space say ” Bedroom in Arles.” when you copy the space and paste it on

    1. nXs

also, RL has post a video on youtube & Facebook

  3. Noah

The first image on the research page has five boxes, with the fourth one (going left to right) filled in. It may be a clue about which answers to fill out on the test.

  4. Chris

Hello everyone who’s reading this comment. My name is Chris and I have some questions and conclusions about The White Door facility webpage.
What does happen now when you call that number? I emailed them about asking to replace the pass and login, and I was doing from Dr. Theo Hoorn face, I’m just curious what they will answer, if they even do so. I also Google all persons names in “Testimonials”, and there’s almost no info about them. You can also see that Dr. Theo Hoorn mention a particular Van Goghs work, that after : isn’t shown (it’s like deleted/removed).
UPDATE: I just found that name of Van Goghs work, it’s “Bedroom in Arles”, how I founded? I just opened pdf reader (on phone) and copied that empty place, pasted in browser and founded the name.
Those login creditials that you shown, none worked, so we just have to wait probably. When you are on Homepage, look at the right and see: Interview With Dr. Hoorn, Schedule an Appointment, Need some relaxation, Are you one of our Doctors. We need exactly that Need some relaxation tab, there you can see text where you can click to “ease your mind”, after clicking there at the top you gonna see white wide lane and fish swimming in it, without water. Idk if it’s useful, but it’s just a fact that it’s happening. Also, when you complete the test, even if you answer normally, the answer always gonna be – Mental state = 1%.
I think that’s all important things that I saw.

    Bonus info:
Everything we know about The White Door facility: Number – +31202443854 (area code – Chicago, Ilinois)

    Email address – [email protected]

    Doctors – Dr. Theo Hoorn,
    Dr. Catherine Adams,
    Dr. Peter Clark,
    Dr. T.K. Johnsson,
    Dr. J. Gonzales,
The Manager (the only one without pfp and info, probably Mr. Owl).

Some clients names that already left a review on this facility – Ursule Lasnick[9] (idk why, but he has 9 in brackets next to his name), Rosanne Jensen, Harry Sollard, Julia Berger, Martin Weber, Thomas Romano.

And that’s all I guess. Hope this was somehow useful. GLHF

    1. AppUnwrapper

Sadly, the phone message hasn’t changed even though it’s Jan 22.

    2. Cat

The Phone Number is actually based in the Netherlands

  5. Noah

This may have been mentioned already, but P. Clark is not yet working – though the password is “CATS”, the file just reads “name” and then “txt” when clicked. (It’s also possible this is part of the clue.)

      1. Eri

TWDH is no longer working, and the hack on the website either.

        1. AppUnwrapper

For the website, you need to use TWDH! The exclamation point is part of the password.

  6. Lina

(sorry if my english is bad)
the official account (@rustylakecom) on instagram uploaded a video about Theo Hoorn’s death. there is also a reversed voice message at the end of that video (it’s a number: 7281003). i’m not sure what to do with it

    1. AppUnwrapper

Yeah watching that video now. It’s also on Twitter and Youtube.

      1. Lina

There’re also YT (Kirsten Hoorn) and IG (@kirstenhoorn) accounts with videos and photos of Dr. Hoorn. Maybe it can help us somehow?

        1. AppUnwrapper

What if you have to play the ping pong game as long as he did?

          1. Lina

            I tried, but nothing happened

  7. Noah

Dr. Gonzales, in his picture, has a box with an X in it on his shirt pocket. The box looks identical to the boxes on the test, and the x is the same as well. It’s also notable that Dr. Gonzales is the 5th doctor on the page, but is in the middle of his row (in between Johnson and the manager). This could be a clue as to what to put down on the test, especially for questions 4 and 5 (which did not appear in the original game).

  8. Lara Lewis

Here’s what I’ve got so far:
In testimonials, there’s a 9 next to the name Ursule Lasnick. I think each of the numbered figures correlates to a question on the test, and there are certain figures (Dr. Gonzales, the photo in “Contact”) that have x’s on them. I’m still working out what goes to what, but I’m PRETTY sure they’re the answers to The Test.

  9. Lara

So I ran the youtube video backwards, and it played a number: 7281003. I have no idea what to do with this, but it was clear as day.

    1. Ale

      I don’t know.
If you find out, tell me.

  10. April

Under testimonials, the last entry: capital letters spell out MY CORRUPTED SOUL

    1. April

      (9) after name, so maybe the answer to test question 9??

  11. Oli Pj

The file name of doctor Gonzales‘ picture is gonzales3_5, so the answer of question 3 is 5.
The file name of the image on ‘contact’ has a (2), so I think the answer of the second question is 1.
The graphs on ‘fig.4’ on ‘researches’ hit at “3”, so question 4 would be 3.
The File name of the first picture on “research” has a (5), so I guess question 5 has the answer 4.
The Answer to question 6 must be “a black cube”.
The Answer to 7 must be “enlightenment”.
The Answer to “9” must be somewhere in the testimonial of Urluse Lasnick, but I have no hot idea.

To the other answers, I have no clue.

  12. Oli

    1. AppUnwrapper

There must be clues to figure these out without the file names, tho? I hope?

    2. Lara

I think 8 is something to do with the Bedroom in Arles from the interview.

      1. AppUnwrapper

Yeah I’m assuming that’s the answer but I’m waiting till I have 10 to try.

        1. Jessie

The Homepage second paragraph says “Your memories will always be safe at the White Door – the past is Never Dead.” I think #10 is Never Dead

    3. jinsoul

also the file name of the photo above the test is 1 and in the photo 1 is marked, i suppose the answer to question 1 is 1, negative

  13. jinsoul

i think that “a black cube” on the braille thing is the answer to the 6th question on the test

  14. Hiphory

    you could see the message
“White Door-the past is Never Dead”
    on the ‘Homepage’
so I think the answer of question 10 is “Never Dead”

    1. jinsoul

you’re right, i did all written things on the walkthrough and comments including this and i did it

  15. jinsoul

    the answers are:
    q1: 1
    q2: 1
    q3: 5
    q4: 3
    q5: 4
    q6: a black cube
    q7: enlightenment
    q8: a cabin at a lake
    q9: my corrupted soul
    q10: never dead

  16. Oli PJ

So i got the right answers.
    1
    1
    5
    3
    4
    A BLACK CUBE
    ENLIGHTENMENT
    A CABIN ON A LAKE
    MY CORRUPTED SOUL
    NEVER DEAD
(The last on is in the text of the starting homepage).

    Try it and watch 🙂

    1. AppUnwrapper

  18. 0PastelGirl0

1.At test page there is a pic. I think it could be an answer on first question.
2.And Im sure there is something with services page, but I don’t know what exactly.
3.Maybe code 7281003 need to use in a game?

  19. Lucas Mainiero

T Hoorn’s password is TWDH but it can only be used in Sarah’s level

    1. AppUnwrapper

How do you get that, though? I’m trying to find all the clues, not just the answers.

      1. Neekah

After you put the right test answers, a reboot of the system is happening. You need to choose T Hoorn as a login and code from his death video as a password. Technical service is unavailable, so you need to proceed to security check (press S). After that you answer to security questions (list and ansewrs are below). Finally, you get the password TWDH.

      2. Lina

You need to choose T. Hoorn’s acc (enter “4” at the HACK page), then enter any word for the password and then enter S for the security check. If you’ll answer all the questions correctly, the system will remind your password (TWDH!). But it can be used at the “Doctor Login” too. Log in as T_Hoorn and use the password (TWDH!) for secret files

    2. Chris

It only works on pc version? Im trying on mobile The White Door, it doesnt work.

      1. AppUnwrapper

I haven’t tried yet, but the iOS version got an update a couple of days ago in preparation for it, so I assume it should work.

        1. Chris

Actually, nvm, I dont have the latest version xD, gonna get latest real fast and do all the achievments and other stuff.

  20. Alex

    Cell codes

    A 87524
    D 87263
    H 98374

    1. Lapa

How did you get these numbers?

      1. Alex

The whole white door community is looking worldwide for the 10 cubes. 3 were found based on the hints in the secret fils on T. Hoorns account. In italy, england and russia. These are the codes of them. The other 7 are in nederland, south korea, canada, usa, japan, poland and china.
        Or check discord.

        1. Lapa

Yep, the Cube locator and documents at Doctor login.

      1. Bill

Log into ‘doctor login’ on the website using T_Hoorn, and password TDWH! In ‘documents’ there are files of people indicating locations in real world. I guess when people find one they send the code in ‘cube locator’ and it will be revealed. On the ‘cube locator’ page currently there are 4 codes revealed other than robert hill.

    2. Lapa

      C 12763

      1. Bill

I see this C 12763 but somehow the door wont open?

  21. April

Is D Margaret Eilander from Paradise?

  22. Noah

The person in room D is the grandma from rusty lake paradise.

  23. Lina

To identify people in cells you need to open the “Doctor Login” section on the website. Then log in as T_Hoorn and the password is TWDH! (with an exclamation mark). There you can find their names and read about them. I don’t know for sure but I think to find cell codes we need to find all the cubes first. In the “document” section there are also hints about where exactly cubes are located, and in the “cube locator” section there are cubes that have already been found (and cell codes of their owners).

  24. Chris

    I guess again, thats not important, but i found one morse code in http://www.mentalhealthandfishing.com/doctor_login/server/Yuliana_Kazantseva/ (if you need to login use login as T_Hoorn and pass as TWDH! ) the file name is Recording7.1.mp3 and there’s a morse code, I was sitting like 10-15 min and the morse code is – …. . -.-. ..- -… . -.-. .- -. -… . ..-. — ..- -. -.. .. -. – …. . -… .- .-. –..– -… . -.-. .- .-. . ..-. ..- .-.. = THECUBECANBEFOUNDINTHEBAR, BECAREFUL. Hope it can help somehow, I didn’t even get time for those cell codes and basement xD.

  25. Delaney

The codes to unlock the doors in the basement are found on the cube locator on the website. Only a few of the cubes have been located though, so we have to figure out the clues in the patient files to find the rest

  26. Noah

I know how to identify the people! Go back to the website and click “doctor login”. Enter T_Hoorn and TWDH!. You’ll get access to special files.

  27. Joe

The code TWDH doesn’t work for the login or the computer

    1. Chris

Make sure the game is updated, and if in case you have the cracked version, get the newest one 1.1.13. But if you trying Doctor Login, login is T_Hoorn and pass is TWDH! with exclamation mark.

  28. Chris

And again me. Founded this (http://www.mentalhealthandfishing.com/doctor_login/server/Bart_Leeghwater/) I guess girls location, not the exact, but I translated things that was said on evidence image. It’s not very acurrate I guess, but I tried my best. And I guess, it’s located in Netherlands.
    ————————————————————-

    Beste Lisa,
    Succes!
    ————————————————————

    Dear Lisa,
I left the cube in the Cafe! It is located in Bart’s old Wera place. He worked here in the lab for years before he fell ill. The people behind the counter will help you out …
The only thing you need to do is order a Bloddy Marry
    Good luck!

I’m also trying to find what that women is saying in that mp3 file, but it’s hard cuz of music. Anyways, gonna go and search for next cube location. And also can someone explain, what do look those codes like?

    1. Chris

And just got another translation from Poland in here: http://www.mentalhealthandfishing.com/doctor_login/server/Tobiasz_Olszewski/
You gotta choose the file with format .pages, there you can see a lot of files (after downloading), but the exact file that I translated is named preview.jpg (the normal one without micro or else), here’s the original and translated.
      ——————————————————

      ——————————————————————-
You’ve come really far. Ask for a cube from 8 to 14 in room 23. To get it, enter the password …

This building is not so much here. It stands a little shorter than a brick building, which can be reached via both the left and right roads to the east.

The brick building stands shorter than the associated building with the well in the courtyard.

The building with the well in the courtyard has been operating here for a year 36 years later than the slogan.

Since I used Google translator, it’s not so accurate, will edit this posts translation little bit later when I get the most accurate one. Cube is located in Poland.

    2. Rowe q

      Play it backwards

      1. Chris

I already did so, but cuz of music, I still can’t understand what she’s saying, same as translator.

        1. J R

It’s a song – Aan De Amsterdamse Grachten by Tante Leen.

        2. Sarah

i used siri to figure it out, i posted about it just a few seconds ago

    3. Juanicotorra

Bart’s cube might be in Amsterdam, as the mp3 file is called ” Aan De Amsterdamse Grachten” which i looked up in Google Translate and meant “On the Amsterdam canals”.

  29. lyle

If you right click on the images with the [x] and “open image in new tab”, the address bar displays the file name and a number which i think determines which question it answers

  30. Roger

Now comes the worst part of these kinds of things, waiting for people from around the world to find these cubes, while you cannot help since you’re nowhere nearby. Although, I was analyzing Tobiasz’s files. There’s the report file like the rest, and a photo of a monument which I don’t recognize. There’s also a .pages format file, which I do not know what to do with, and a text, whose file name seems to be the key to solving the cypher. I’m not sure if there’s a specific name for them, but I believe I know how it works. The name of the file is 987364753, so I believe you take the first letter, then the letter 9 away, then the letter 8 away from that one, etc, until we reach the end, although I’m not sure if you start with the 9th letter then continue, or if you start on the first then jump 9 spaces. I’ll try to decode it if I can, but if I cannot, try it yourselves, maybe you’ll have better luck.

    1. Juanicotorra

You can search for the monument in Google Image Search

    2. AppUnwrapper

Do you know exactly where each cube was found so far? Would like to add that to the guide.

      1. Chris

Just check cube locator map, there you can find everything.

        1. AppUnwrapper

I mean like the *exact* location, not just the city.

          1. Roger

Oh, my mistake, I responded with the cities. I don’t know the exact location, though, I’m sorry.

      2. Roger

According to the cube finder in Hoorn’s page, we have found Leonie Poisson’s cube in Montreal, Canada with the code 12763; Robert Hill’s cube in New York, USA with the code Unknown; Susan Fisher’s cube in London, United Kingdom with the code 98374; Giulio Trentino’s cube in Milan, Italy, with the code 87524 and Yuliana Kazantseva’s cube in Moscow, Russia, with the code 87263

  31. Juanicotorra

Someone can use GeoVisual search to search for the Tower Block image from Linda Kirkland/Graphic12.png (please read replies)

      1. Juanicotorra

He also lived in Madrid, Spain

        1. Juanicotorra

http://mentalhealthandfishing.com/doctor_login/server/Linda_Kirkland/Graphic%2075.png is a Spanish game called “El Juego de La Oca”, but a Templar version, that is a guide to a place in Spain called Santiago. People that know spanish can look at this page “http://www.elcaminoasantiago.com/caminos/esoterico/juegooca.htm” for information, it could be another clue. Linda Kirkland is from the United States, but there is information related to Spain

          1. Juanicotorra

I believe that Linda Kirkland’s Cube can be in Madrid or in Santiago de Compostela, both are places in Spain

            1. Juanicotorra

Doesn’t matter, someone found it already

  32. Sarah

i tried reversing the mp3 recording under bart and it seemed more coherent, but its in another language i think. could be totally wrong about this though

UPDATE: I used siri to find out what the song is, its called Aan De Amsterdamse Grachten.

    1. J R

It’s a dutch song – Aan De Amsterdamse Grachten by Tante Leen

    2. Juanicotorra

I think it could be in Amsterdam

    3. Chris

Much appreciate for finding this, but now I just think, if there was a sense doing this, since already the location is founded, we just ppl to get there. But still, thx

UPDATE: My bad, there is sense in it, the city may be Amsterdam and it can be somewhere near canals, but from my translated text, it’s in some bar.

      1. Juanicotorra

It could be a bar near some canals, we only need to go to Google Maps and search for it

        1. Juanicotorra

The only problem is that there are A LOT of bars near canals in Amsterdam

TANTE LEEN (The woman who made the song from the mp3) OPENED A CAFÉ AT Nieuwendijk 103, AMSTERDAM. THE CUBE COULD BE THERE! Now the place is a store

            1. Juanicotorra

There are like 2 cafés near that place, and one bar called The Web

      2. Juanicotorra

From your translated text, it is in a café

        1. Juanicotorra

It could also be in a café called NRD, that is near Shell Technology Centre in Amsterdam

    ATTENTION, ATTENTION!
ANOTHER CUBE HAS BEEN FOUND, ITS:

    Name: Linda Kirkland

    City: San Francisco

    Client ID: K1946US

    Found on: 22/01/2020 21:21

    Found by: Zain Salamah

    Basement code

    11276

    1. Juanicotorra

Someone knows how he found it?

      1. Nata

Is it real cubes with codes on them????

  35. euol

In Zhang Yong Li’s index, evidence98, the Chinese says “Harvey” when translated to English. And ip has the first 3099 numbers of π.

  36. Alex

All locations of the last 5 cubes are already known. People pick it up as soon as the shops are open.

    1. Roger

It soon will be daylight in Asia, so the cubes situated there could be discovered in a few hours, hopefully.

    2. Chris

If it really happens so, it’s gonna be probably the fastest completed world wide quest, or something like that. 11 cubes in total to find, I can’t imagine what happens after that. Probably some secret ending or something more interesting.

For Question 4, I think it is related to the phrase ‘cross the line’ under the figure. The answer to Question 4 is 3 because the red line crosses the blue line at 3.

    hello

I think the access code for Bart Leeghwater is at The Coffee Virus, which is in A Lab in Amsterdam !! I reversed the audio file and the song was in Dutch, and it was a song about Amsterdam. So, after looking into some labs near that area, I found a little something on Tripadvisor saying that the Coffee Virus (Which, if it wasn’t obvious, is a cafe) is inside of A Lab, “Shell’s old laboratories.” So I think all of the clues fit !!

  39. Roger

So what was the deal with Robert’s cube? The other 10 cubes were used for the basement achievement, but was Robert’s used for anything? It’s not like we had a code given, but it feels strange to have a “blank” cube.

    1. AppUnwrapper

There was no physical cube for him. You get the code from the video they posted. It’s just that the first person to use the code gets credit.

Please finish the company.the maze is out

I know the way to find the cube of Giulio Trentino. It seems to be too late but I only read carefully all the walkthrough today,so… Anyway you can still add it if you still feel like it.
Evidence-03.jpg is a classic tram in Milan, that’s the city. Graphic2.3.png is a man named Giuseppe Govone, plus the number 31, implying the address Via Giuseppe Govono,31. If you google it, it’s the same plce shown in Graphic7.1.jpg.
The recording 5 says (pardon my poor italian) :’Hi, it’s me. I have sent it to the place we’ve talked about, the one in front of the studio of Doctor Annalisa. Look for Federico, he knows where the cube is. Thank you. Giulio would be proud of you.’ So I assume this Federico would give you the cube if you found him.
I guess this is the simplest one.

  42. Unknown

Is the one in Japan in toshima city in a Italian themed restaurant/cafe?

  43. Andreia

I think the woman in the recording is singing backwards

  44. Nick

I think I understand the first 2 address of the cube (too late, I know)

Bart Leeghwater – The Coffee Virus – A Lab – Amsterdam:
forth image – this is the translation: Dear Lisa, I left the cube in the bar, it’s in Bart’s old place. He worked here in the lab for years before getting sick, the people behind the counter will help you do. You have to order a bloody mary
The recording (play reverse) is a song about Amsterdam
there is a shell logo in second image (in Amsterdam there isa a Shell Tech center)
Near the shell center there is a cafè named The cofee Virus (remeber the first image)
The Coffee Virus – A Lab (it seems the place of the third photo). The cube was there, drinking a bloody mary

Giulio Trentino- Titan Gaming Center – Milan:
I’m Italian, the first image remind me clearly Milan
The second photo, searching with google image, is about Giuseppe Govone
Searching for a doctor name Annalisa in Giuseppe Govone Street in Milan and you find a pharmacy. next to the farmacy we have our place (rouded in the third photo): Titan Gaming Center.. People who found the cube asked about Federico I suppose (thanks to the audio)

    1. Edgár Etzl

now there are 11 cubes, but only 10 prisoners.

  46. Lynn

So, I just did a little research and checked if there was a Leeghwater Street in Amsterdam. There is a first Leeghwaterstraat and a second Leeghwaterstraat because B from Bart is the second letter in the alphabet. When you look through the window in Google maps, you can see a parrot hanging in front of the window Harvey! I wish I could check it out!

  47. queenrinacat

thank you appunwrapper for being so enormously helpful in general

  48. yaboiemah

I know it’s an old thread but the Recording5.mp3 says: “Hello, it’s me, i’ve delivered it at the place we’ve talked about, that one in front of Doctor Annalisa study. Ask about Federico, he knows where’s the cube. Thanks.Giulio would be proud of you

  49. TheMonsterOfTheNet

Hi, I’ve found how to fill some gaps in the patient files walkthrough (just for completeness purposes).

The country where each cube is found is given by the last two letters of the patient code (eg RU=Russia), except in the case of Robert Hill. This also tells you what the respective non-english languages are: Dutch for the recording and the letter in the Netherlands, Italian for the recording in Italy, Japanese for the recording in Japan, Polish for the letter (and probably also the cryptogram) in Poland, and some version of Chinese on the clue for China.

Below are some puzzles I’ve solved for specific people.

    Linda Kirkland (US) [solved]

The man in the picture is Washington Irving. The game board starts with the numbers 20-8-3-7-1-13-3-16-1-18-12-15-21-18, if you turn these into letters you get “thcgamcparlour”. Google [“the game parlour” Irving] and you get a cafe called “the game parlour” on Irving street in San Francisco. This is the place. To confirm, check satellite view and you’ll get the same as in the top-down picture. Furthermore, it’s a cafe where you can also play games, which is what she describes in the letter.

    Susan Fisher (UK) [improperly solved]

This can be solved by trial and error if you realise that the moon is a clue for the name of the cafe. Search [moon cafe uk] and you get a few options. Compare with satellite view to find the right one. I’ve found part of the proper solution: the recording says (among other things) “I am Susan Fisher”, these are the letters that you have to mark/connect on the sheet of paper with the random-looking letters on it. You get a shape. I’m not really sure how to use it, though.

    Yiuliana Kazantseva (Russia) [solved?]

The picture of the building looks like a subway station in Moscow, that’s how you know the city. The Morse code message states we’re looking for a bar. Then there’s the picture of a bear, and there’s a gun in the other picture, so… the Guns&Bears pub? I mean, it’s pretty famous. The phrase “be careful” also seems justified because the pub is near a prison building.

Bart Leeghwater (the Netherlands) [partly solved]

The recording is supposed to be played backwards (there are sites that can do that for you, you upload a video or audio file and they produce a backwards version you can download). Then you hear a song about Amsterdam. That’s how you know the city. The rest of the clues are supposed to give you the location. The letter says that he left the cube at a cafe that replaced “Bart’s old workshop”, and that Bart was working there before he got sick. It goes on to say that the people behind the counter can help, and that you have to order a Bloody Mary. The pictures are 1) the symbol for biohazard, 2) part of the logo of Shell Oil company, and 3) I’m pretty sure that’s the back of the Hermitage Museum in Amsterdam (a local should confirm). So in short we’re looking for a cafe near the Hermitage that replaced a biohazardous workshop that probably had something to do with petrol.
