Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. Between working on my Game of the Year list and the new Genshin Impact update, I didn’t get a chance to play too many other games. A new area in Genshin usually means there a ton of new content that could take a week or two to complete. But there’s still some other games to discuss, so let’s get to it!

Where’s Samantha?

Where’s Samantha? is a puzzle platformer that first released on PC but made its way over to iOS recently. You play as a little square of fabric called George as he searches for his long lost love, Samantha. There’s some interesting mechanics involved, where you have clones of George and then can split them up or combine them in to a bigger square to solve puzzles. The problem is, the controls don’t feel great, especially on my iPad. There’s two arrow buttons on the lower left and then a jump button on the right, which is surrounded by three more buttons that swap between clones, split them or combine them. When things were nice and slow and relaxed, I managed to make the controls work. But when I got to spinning blades that kept killing me, I lost interest. I don’t think the controls are right enough for that kind of precise platforming. Thankfully, the game is free to try with an IAP to unlock the full game, so it’s worth downloading if you’re at all curious.

Cards Infinity

I was excited to play Cards Infinity because I’m a big fan of solitaire games that do something different. I also liked the idea of an endless high score chaser version of Solitaire. But I found so much about the game needlessly confusing. It doesn’t even offer much of a tutorial unless you keep asking for help. I don’t understand why tapping on a specific spot on the screen will cause my [what I think is a multiplier] to drop into the negatives. I’m also not sure how I’m supposed to strategize when you start off with only two piles to add cards to. If they’re the wrong numbers that you need, you waste a lot of time and moves trying to get the ones you can use. I’m not explaining it very well because I honestly don’t even get the rules myself. There are numbers all over the place and I don’t even know why my score is going up or down. I really wish it had been explained better because maybe I could actually get into it if I knew what was happening. I still managed to get the high score of the day in the end, but I lost interest immediately after. I recommend watching my video to see it in action.

a new life.

Last week, I played the short free visual novel, there’s this girl, by Angela He and enjoyed it enough to buy her other game, a new life. I didn’t have a chance to play it until this week, but it was worth the wait. It’s a short game, so I don’t want to spoil it. But it’s about a a relationship and you basically have the ability to turn back time and try to fix your mistakes to get a better future. It also touches upon issues like the pandemic, but not enough to feel preachy. It’s a short visual novel that packs an emotional punch and I’d recommend it to anyone who doesn’t mind its length and lack of real gameplay.

Genshin Impact

And last, I’ve been spending a lot of time in Genshin Impact this week, thanks to the new area added called Enkanomiya. It’s a massive set of interconnected floating islands that are hidden underwater. There’s so many puzzles, treasure chests, new enemies, plus story quests. This is my favorite part of the game, so understandably I’m excited about it and spending a lot of time on it. I’m also waiting for Zhongli to finally return in about three weeks so I can finally get him after all this time. If you want to see what the new area looks like, I have a number of videos below.

And that’s everything I’ve been up to this week. I also finally finished the third season of Succession, which had quite the twist at the end. I still hate everyone in that family and want them all to die but somehow I can’t stop watching. I also just started Station Eleven but I’m not sure yet if I like it.
