My Week Unwrapped: January 21, 2022 – Frequency, Puzzle Pelago, Kanso, Genshin Impact and More

Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. Again, this was a pretty quiet week, as there weren’t too many games that caught my interest. I completed most of the new content added to the current update in Genshin Impact, so those videos are also winding down. Hopefully next week will be busier, as there are already a few games on my radar, including one I previewed for you below. Anyway, let’s get started.

Frequency.

In Frequency, you play as a ranger named Noah who hears someone over his radio who needs help. It reminds me a bit of the Lifeline games, in the way that you’re communicating long distance and offering advice. It also takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. I was interested, to some degree, in seeing where the story would go. But after about a half hour, I just couldn’t listen to the voice actor playing Noah anymore. He sounds like he’s reading the script for the first time, no emotion whatsoever. The woman who plays Eliza does a much better job, but since the whole game is back and forth between the two, I was finding Noah’s half too distracting to enjoy it. If you’re curious, I recommend watching some of my video below before buying it.

Puzzle Pelago

Puzzle Pelago actually released two years ago, but I had a hard time telling what kind of game it was when it released and didn’t buy it. I forgot about it until it went free this week and saw it as a great opportunity to finally give it a try. It’s actually a really interesting puzzler in which you need to turn trees into supplies for homes. You drag your finger from the trees to crest logs and drop them next to the house to provide firewood. If lumber is needed instead, you first make the logs and then drag the logs to the house to make lumber. I assume there will be more and more resources that are needed, but I got stuck on a level in chapter 2 and took a break. I really like the game, though. It’s very relaxed, includes an undo button, and lets you solve the puzzles at your own pace. At the price of free, it’s a very easy recommendation. Hopefully I’ll have more to say once I play more.

Kanso

Kanso is a a relaxing game meant to help you find your moment of zen. It’s not releasing until the 25th, but I got an early copy and spent about a half hour with it so far. The main idea is that you trace a shape with your finger. At first that’s easy, but then different kinds of fish are added that act as obstacles. Each color fish behaves differently and you need to be aware of their patterns so you can avoid touching them. Most of the levels I played so far weren’t too difficult, but a few tripped me up and took several attempts to clear. I actually like the more challenging levels the best. What I found weird was that one of the three chapters I played had no fish, so all I was doing was quickly tracing shapes without any resistance. I also didn’t like the affirmations in that chapter, as they came off as preachy and even bordering propaganda. The first chapter was all about mindful breathing and the third chapter was about enjoying nature, but this bizarre second chapter was about lying. Just over and over telling me how I shouldn’t lie, just in different ways. Hopefully things like that will be removed or improved upon, but I do like the overall idea of the game. You can see what it plays like in my video below.

Adventure Escape Mysteries: The Sultan’s Inventor

I’m making slow progress with my videos for The Sultan’s Inventor. I meant to have more videos done by now but it just didn’t happen. Please bear with me. I’ll get them all done in time.

Genshin Impact

And this week in Genshin Impact I played more of the Windtrace event and also completed all of Ningguang’s and Yun Jin’s hangouts. I’m also beyond excited for Zhongli’s rerun coming in four days, as I saved up for him and will be guaranteed to get him. So I’ve been farming for artifacts for him, though I haven’t had much luck with stats. I’ll continue farming once I have him. Right now I’m just aching to use him after such a long wait.

And that’s everything I’ve been up to this week. I also finished watching Landscapers and caught up on the final episode of the twelfth season of Doctor Who. Now I’m watching the Snowpiercer series, which is so bad that I can’t turn away. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re enjoying and I’ll see you back here next time with more of My Week Unwrapped!
