My Week Unwrapped: December 9, 2022 – Vampire Survivors, AEM On Thin Ice, OPUS Echo of Starsong and More

Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. This is a pretty light week as far as new games go, but one game in particular is single-handedly destroying all my productivity. Vampire Survivors got a mobile release yesterday and I haven’t been able to put it down. Aside from that, there’s a new Adventure Escape game and a Genshin Impact update. So let’s get started!

Vampire Survivors

Vampire Survivors is an extremely popular roguelite that started off in early access on Steam near the end of 2021 and then released properly this year. Many games have tried to mimic it on mobile, but now it’s actually available on iOS and Android, so there’s no reason to look elsewhere. It’s also perfect for touchscreens since the only control is a single joystick to move around Not only that, the game is completely free, with just opt-in ads for revives and extra gold. I wish it had an IAP to remove the opt-in ads, but I’ve just been ignoring them and enjoying the game completely for free. And let me tell you, it is really addictive. I’ve been playing almost nonstop since I downloaded it. Normally I get turned off by roguelites with a ton of ublockables because they make it feel artificially stretched out. But Vampire Survivors has so much going on, so many characters to unlock, as well as new items and maps. And while permanent upgrades are bought with coins, pretty much everything else needs to be unlocked through play. So each run feels fresh and brimming with possibility of new items, characters, maps or other surprises. I started off on my iPad but then switched to my iPhone when I realized how perfect it is for a one-handed game. Sadly, there’s no iCloud sync at the moment, but the developers do have plans to add cross-device saves. Anyway, just download the game and play. See for yourself why it’s so hard to put down.

Adventure Escape Mysteries – On Thin Ice

I’m still working on the videos for Haiku’s last game, so I did not expect them to release another one so soon. But here we are with another Adventure Escape game, this time starring Detective Kate Gray. I’m only on the first chapter, but I’m enjoying it so far and working on my walkthrough. It’s just that Vampire Survivors keeps hogging my attention.

OPUS: Echo of Starsong

I’ve been slowly making my way through OPUS: Echo of Starsong. This week I played through the second half of Chapter 2, which took me three hours! I’m still enjoying it, though I do wish it had English voiceovers. I think I would be more immersed in the story. But even so, I’m liking it a lot. I am concerned that I made a mistake and didn’t buy the materials I needed to upgrade one of my ship’s parts when I came across them a long while back. I haven’t seen those parts in a long time and I’m worried the game thinks I wouldn’t need them anymore. It’s slowing my progress a bit because I have to go back to space stations to restock the items that let me “explore” when I get to a new location. I can only carry six of them now and that’s severely limiting. Hopefully I won’t be stuck like this for the rest of the game. Anyway, you can find all my videos here if you want to see more.

Adventure Escape Mysteries – Legend of the Time Stones

I got sidetracked over the last couple of weeks, but I finally started making more videos for Legend of the Time Stones. I now have chapters 5 & 6 done, so only 7 & 8 are left. You can see my full walkthrough here.

Genshin Impact

And last, the 3.3 update arrived in Genshin Impact. But before it did, I decided to take my chances on the weapons banner because I wanted Yae’s weapon. Instead, I got Childe’s. It’s still a good weapon, but I don’t use him much so it’s a little disappointing. However, I then got insanely lucky on Scaramouche/Wanderer’s banner — he came in the first 10-pull after getting Yae. So I now have wishes to spare and I’m considering trying for his weapon. But I’m going to wait a week or two to see what the leaks say about 3.4, in case one of those banners look better. This update also brought the Genius Invocation trading card game, which is interesting but not really my speed. I’ll probably just play a bit here and there to get all the rewards.

And that’s everything I’ve been up to this week. I also watched The English on Amazon Prime, and found it quite moving. It’s a sobering look back on America’s violent origins and stars Emily Blunt. I highly recommend it. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re enjoying and I’ll see you back here next time with more of My Week Unwrapped!

Am stuck on unlocking the hard drive on thin ice. I guess you haven’t finished this chapter but I need a clue on how to guess the thousands of number combos it could be.
    Thank you
