Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. Once again, I didn’t have enough to write about last week, so this roundup covers the last two weeks. I’m still working on my Mystery Detective Adventure walkthrough, but the new Adventure Escape game is finally out for free for everyone, so I’m finished with that. There was also a huge Genshin Impact update, so that’s a priority at the moment. But there are some good games coming out soon that I’ll be covering, so keep an eye out. For now, here’s my roundup for the last two weeks.
Roia
Roia is a mostly relaxing game with a really unique mechanic. The idea is that you mold the topography to control the path of water running down the mountain. It starts off easy and I thought it might stay that way. But before long you’re tasked with trying to keep kayakers from crashing, watering trees in your path, and navigating through villages. Some of these tasks are easier than others and I didn’t succeed for all of them, so I missed out on some achievements. There were also moments where I felt like I had to fiddle with things a little too much to get the water to go where I needed. And I wish there was a way to reset part of the mountain to what it looked like before I started messing with it. Still, I like the idea overall and it was a truly unique experience. I suggest watching some of my video to get an idea of what it’s like, but I would recommend it for just how different it feels than anything else out there.
Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit
I played some of the original Cozy Grove back when it was on Apple Arcade and I enjoyed it to an extent. But I got tired of the gameplay loop fairly quickly and the adorable art and quirky writing weren’t enough to keep me interested. Still, I was curious about the sequel that released on Netflix recently so I finally checked it out. I will say that I got more sucked into this one and am enjoying it quite a bit. I don’t know how long that will last, but I’ll probably continue playing for now. If you have a Netflix account and like games where you basically run around and do fetch quests for different characters, you’ll likely enjoy it. It’s similar to Hello Kitty Adventure Island and Wylde Flowers. The art is again a selling point, but the dialogue is also very entertaining. And if you do tire it eventually, there’s no loss because you had it included with your Netflix membership.
Mystery Detective Adventure
I finally played through all three cases of Mystery Detective Adventure, but I’m still finishing up my guide for the third one before I make walkthrough videos for each. This one was a lot easier than the others except for one annoying puzzle. Thankfully, it’s one that stays the same for each playthrough, so you can use my video to help. The puzzles that tend to annoy me are the ones that have a different layout each playthrough so you can’t repeat what you did before. Overall, this was a pretty good experience, but I’m not sure I would make walkthroughs for their other games based on how long this one has been taking me. Again, the whole game is completely free as long as you don’t need to rely on hints, so I recommend giving it a try.
Adventure Escape Mysteries – Reunion
I finally played through the VIP bonus chapter for Puzzle Lovers, called Reunion. I also finished my walkthrough, though there weren’t a whole lot of puzzles. I think the main draw here is for the story. If you want more interactions between the characters and to decide your own character’s future, it might be worth buying. It also has replay value if you want to try different dialogue choices. I have a video of it if you want to see what it’s like before spending the $9 for it.
Genshin Impact
And last, the 4.8 update hit this week in Genshin Impact. It brought with it the temporary summer island that’s made out of origami. I’ve been limiting my play time each day because I want to savor it, but I’m really enjoying what I’ve seen so far. The paper animals are adorable and I like all the new mechanics they added that involve controlling them. After all this, there’s the big 5.0 update that brings us a new nation called Natlan. So there’s quite a bit to do in game. If you took a break, now would be a good time to come back.
And that’s everything I’ve been up to these last two weeks. I also watched Oddity, which was good fun. I saw the original Lion King in theaters because it’s one of my favorite Disney movies. I also saw A Quiet Place Day One and watched We Were the Lucky Ones, Under the Bridge and Serial Mom. With the insane humidity we had, I didn’t really want to do much other than sit and watch stuff. Hopefully the worst is behind us, though. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re enjoying and I’ll see you back here next time for more of My Week Unwrapped!
This is terrible, the low amont of quality of games on the Apple Store. I would like more games like Death’s Door, Gorogoa, The Room and Da Vinci series, etc. However, such casual and uninteresting games are appearing that it’s cringeworthy. It’s obvious that Apple can offer many more attractive and sophisticated games, and I don’t understand why they don’t. I’m not even asking for AAA games for PS5, just for ones like the ones I mentioned that don’t need such powerful hardware.
The Da Vinci folks are working on a new game, but I’m not sure when it’s releasing.
Hi Appunwrapper! I just found out that “Superliminal” by Noodlecake has been ported to mobile. I think it’s coming out on July 30. Is this date correct? I’m really looking forward to playing it 😀
Yes, that’s one of the games I’m looking forward to!
