Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. You may have noticed that I once again skipped a week, mainly because Genshin Impact’s new area had been dominating my time. But there have been a few notable releases this week that are worth checking out. There’s a fair amount to discuss, so let’s get started.
Unforeseen Incidents
Unforeseen Incidents is a point-and-click adventure about a deadly contagion that was out on other platforms in 2018, before the COVID-19 pandemic started. It finally got ported over to mobile this week and it’s interesting coming to it now that COVID is a thing. In it, you play as a handyman who stumbles onto a conspiracy after meeting a dying woman in the street. I’ve only played for a couple of hours so far, but I love the art style and I’m impressed by the writing and voice acting. I’ve been listening to as much dialogue as I can find because it’s so enjoyable. The puzzles themselves haven’t been overly difficult yet, but there was one little annoying part that needed to be timed right that may have bugged out on me a bit. I got past it, though, and I’m back to enjoying the game. I hope to see this one through to the end, because I’m very interested in finding out what’s going on with this crazy conspiracy. From what I’ve played, I would recommend it to any point-and-click fans, but you can also watch some of my gameplay videos to see what it’s like before buying.
Maid of Sker
Maid of Sker is another game that was out on other platforms but just got ported to mobile. From what I played of it so far, it really captures the horror atmosphere. Every creak has me turning around, afraid that something’s about to attack — even though I haven’t picked up any weapons yet. I’m not sure how much of this I’ll play, but first I need to figure out how to find the keys to open the one room I haven’t entered yet. I’m not sure what I’m missing, because I thought I carefully examined all drawers and cabinets as I was exploring the manor. I’ll have to give it another walk through, but it’s strange to me that it could be so easy to miss such an important item. Anyway, the game is free to try with a one-time purchase to unlock the full game, so give it a try for yourself if you’re even the least bit interested.
The Longing
I started playing The Longing near the end of last year and had mixed feelings about it. Still, I was impressed enough to include it in my GOTY list. The goal of the game is to wake the king, but you can only do so after an entire year inside the game. Thankfully, there are ways to speed up time by completing tasks — or even just having your character read books while you’re away. Still, I was away from it so long that when I came back, I was able to wake the king. So I did so and got what did not appear to be a good ending. I like that it subverted my expectations and part of me wants to go back in and look for some of the alternate endings. I’m just loath to start over from scratch. But maybe when I have a quiet week I’ll be more inclined to do so. In any case, I think it’s worth playing, especially if you embrace its idle aspects and don’t try to pass 365 days actually playing the game.
Ocean Keeper: Dome Survival
I’ve been playing Ocean Keeper for a few weeks now and managed to make it to the fourth boss, but I think I’ve lost interest at this point. Some of the permanent upgrades are bugged and took my gold without giving me the upgrades. The gameplay loop is also getting old at this point. I had fun with it, though, and I think it’s on sale now for just a buck, so if you’re into these kinds of survival games, it might be worth grabbing at that price point.
Genshin Impact
And last, I’ve been spending a lot of time with the latest Genshin Impact update. I completed both the archon quest and Mualani’s quest, but I have a lot more to do. There’s tons of other quests I’m in the middle and there’s whole areas of Natlan I haven’t even begun to explore. I did manage to snag Mualani for only around 30 wishes and I’m enjoying riding around on her shark. Kinich’s banner arrives in a few days and I’m excited to pull for him, even if I don’t get that kind of luck. Overall, I’m really happy with the new area and I’m excited to keep exploring.
And that’s everything I’ve been up to these last two weeks. I also saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which I loved. One of the storylines felt tacked on and rushed, but otherwise I think it was great. I then saw Blink Twice, which was a lot more messed up than I was expecting. I also watched the live action One Piece on Netflix despite knowing nothing about the franchise and ended up loving it so much I binged it in just a few days. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re playing and I’ll see you back here next the with more of My Week Unwrapped!
I found your site when I got stuck on some point and click games. They have been a lifesaver. I got turned onto point-and-click games when I purchased a PC years ago that came with some free games. Notably, kings quest and I started looking for games like it such as monkey Island series and Nancy drew series. I really love those type of games and have been playing adventure escape games, and recently played day of the tentacle and broken age. I would love any recommendations of games similar to those.
I loved Voodoo Detective.
Thank you for the recommendation! I’m playing it now and thoroughly am enjoying it. I love the funny dialogue in it. I am also playing adventure escape mysteries canine cases and already got stuck a couple times and came to your site. 😊
