My Week Unwrapped: November 15, 2024 – The Rise of the Golden Idol, Miniatures, Vampire Survivors, Scattered Verse, Your House and More

Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. Once again, this is covering two weeks’ worth of games because last week I didn’t play much besides Vampire Survivors. There was a lot more to cover this week, though, including some new releases that we were lucky enough to get on mobile at the same time as other platforms. There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s get started.

The Rise of the Golden Idol

I played some of The Curse of the Golden Idol back when it got ported to mobile through Netflix games and, even though I enjoyed what I played, I didn’t finish it. I do mean to go back to it, but for now I’m playing the sequel that just released on all platforms including mobile. You once again need a Netflix subscription for it, but remember that the $6.99 ad-supported tier includes all the games and they won’t have any ads. The Rise of the Golden Idol is a sequel but, according to the developers, you don’t need to play the two in order. I’ve so far played through the first two chapters and I’m really enjoying it. I especially like how each chapter is broken up into different mysteries that then tie together for some extra meta puzzles that use all the info you uncovered from the entire chapter. For puzzle and adventure fans, this series is one you don’t want to pass up. But I recommend taking your time with it and not trying to rush. There’s a lot of info and everything you need is right there if you pay close attention to the details. I’ll be posting my playthrough here as I record more videos, which might help if you’re stuck on any puzzles.

Miniatures: A Story Collection

Miniatures is another game that released on mobile this week along with other platforms. It’s from Other Tales, the folks behind Tick Tock: A Tale for Two, which I adored. Miniatures is a very short game that takes you through four stories told in very different ways. I enjoyed it, especially the one with the little critters that live in a sand castle. But be aware that there isn’t a whole lot of “game” to it and certainly not much replay value. I enjoyed it for what it is, but those looking to get more bang for their buck might be disappointed. You can watch some of my gameplay video below to see what it’s like, but be aware that it covers the whole game and will spoil it for you if you watch too much.

Vampire Survivors: Ode to Castlevania DLC

I put many more hours into the Castlevania DLC in Vampire Survivors and revealed a whole slew of new characters and achievements to unlock. I’m actually a bit burnt out because of the insane amount of content, so I may take a bit of a break to catch up on other games. But if more Vampire Survivors is what you want, this DLC delivers in droves and for a super cheap price. I have more videos in my walkthrough guide here if you need help with any of the achievements.

Scattered Verse

Scattered Verse is a platformer in which you collect letters in the right order to spell a word. I like the idea of it, but in practice it feels a bit underwhelming, especially when the words I’m spelling are all very easy. It’s possible it gets more interesting later, but I’m not sure I’ll stick with it. It feels like there’s something missing to make it more compelling. Again, you can watch some of my gameplay video below if you want to see what it’s like before buying.

Your House

Your House isn’t out yet, but you can play the demo on Steam. It’s from Patrones y Escondites, the folks behind unmemory, and it has a similar format of text blended with images and puzzles. The demo covers the first chapter, which is short, but it gave me enough to whet my appetite and get me looking forward to the rest of it. You can’t play the demo on iOS, but if you have a PC I recommend trying the demo. The full game will hopefully be released in February and I’ll have more coverage for it then.

Genshin Impact

And last, I continued with Genshin Impact, though I also took a bit of a break from it. I only did the events and dailies and not a whole lot of exploration, despite still having a lot to complete in Natlan. The next update is coming in a few days, though, so expect more videos from me in the coming weeks.

And that’s everything I’ve been up to these last two weeks! I also subscribed to Disney+ so I could watch Agatha All Along and the second season of Loki. And I figured I’d take advantage of it to watch the first Deadpool since I hadn’t seen it, as well as Guardians of the Galaxy 2 & 3. I also saw Anora, Saturday Night and Memoir of a Snail in theaters, all three of which I’d highly recommend. Anyway, let me know in the comments which games you’re playing and I’ll see you back here next time for more of My Week Unwrapped!

I started it but it was so buggy that I didn’t have the patience to continue with it.
