Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. This was a busy week with some notable releases, and together with the crummy weather over the last couple of days, it meant I spent a lot of time playing. There was an also a huge Genshin Impact update that’s consuming all my time. There’s a lot to discuss, so let’s get started.
Dungeon Clawler
No, that’s not a typo. Dungeon Clawler is a roguelike in which you use a claw machine for pretty much everything you do. In battle, you use the claw to grab items that will enable you to attack, defend, heal, poison, or a number of other actions. Between battles, you might get a claw machine that’s full of gold and health potions. There are also events where you have to pull a chest out from a tank full of spikes that harm you. The goal is to get through all floors without dying, because if you do it’s game over. This does appear to be a proper roguelike, with only unlockable characters between runs, nothing you can upgrade to make it easier. So far I’ve gotten to floor 17 with two different characters before dying and it says there are 20 floors but I’m not sure if that’s the whole game. In any case, I am determined to beat it at least once. I’m just not sure I’ll try to win with every character. I like the overall idea and feel of the game, but sometimes it moves a bit too slow and I’d like a way to speed it up. But it’s unlike any other roguelike out there and I think the novelty is worth the $4.99 entrance fee. You can also watch some of my gameplay videos below to see what it’s like.
Mister Antonio
Mister Antonio is the latest game from Bart Bonte and it has you collecting colored balls for a cat who, I assume, is named Mister Antonio. The controls consist of mainly two buttons, one for moving clockwise and one for counterclockwise. You rotate around a planet and automatically pick up balls when you touch them. There are usually multiple planets you can travel to and the idea is to stack the balls the way the cat asks you to. You’ll also encounter clouds that spray white dots on the balls and a moose that knocks you over and flips the balls you’re holding upside-down. It’s a nice little puzzler, though I do wish I could just zoom out and see what’s on all the planets before walking over to them. If you’re a puzzle fan, I think it’s worth checking out, especially since it’s free with a one-time IAP to remove the ads.
The Rise of the Golden Idol
The Rise of the Golden Idol released last week and I was enjoying it so much that I played nothing else until I completed it. There were some chapters that made my head spin due to how much information there was to go through, but I still enjoyed unraveling the mystery. I highly recommend it to any fans of adventure or puzzle games, but I suggest taking your time with it instead of trying to rush it like I did. I also have videos of my full playthrough here. I’d like to eventually go back and complete the original, but it’ll have to wait until things quiet down a bit.
Adventure Escape Mysteries – Death Dodgers
Death Dodgers is the latest Adventure Escape game from Haiku Games, but it’s only available through their paid VIP package at the moment. It will be available for four weeks that way before it goes free for everyone and includes a bonus game that will not be available outside of the VIP package. I’m only on the second chapter right now, but I’m enjoying this one. It has you playing as Marcus, who recently lost someone close to him and needs a distraction. He accepts an invitation to a game called Death Dodgers, but it turns out that those who don’t win end up dead! I’m eager to see where this one leads, as it’s certainly a fun premise. I’ll let you know as I play more what I think of it, but as usual you need to decide for yourself if it’s worth paying the $8.99 to play the game early instead of waiting for it. I’m also working on a walkthrough here if you need help.
Genshin Impact
And last, Genshin Impact‘s 5.2 update arrived this week, brining with it two more Natlan clans and two more new characters to pull for. So far, I got the 4-star, Ororon, but I’m very close to pity and still deciding if I want to go for the 5-star, Chasca, or wait for other characters I know I definitely want. Aside from that, I’m just enjoying exploring the new areas and working my way through all the story quests. Overall, I’m impressed with Natlan and I like how they’re giving each character an exploration skill.
And that’s everything I’ve been up to this week. I also saw Heretic in theaters, which was not as smart as I was hoping it’d be. Since I have Disney+ at the moment; I made my way through some more movies, like Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re playing and I’ll see you back here next time for more of My Week Unwrapped!
