My Week Unwrapped: December 6, 2024 – The Abandoned Planet, Death Dodgers, Carrion and More

Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. Once again, this is covering two weeks’ worth of games because I didn’t play that much the previous week. Even so, I spent most of the last two weeks playing Genshin Impact and Death Dodgers, so there isn’t a whole lot to discuss. This coming week has a lot of notable releases, though, so make sure to keep an eye out. Anyway, let’s get started.

The Abandoned Planet

I played through The Abandoned Planet last week in just a couple of days after it released. It’s a point-and-click adventure from the developer of Dexter Stardust and even ties in to the game, though I won’t spoil how. You play as a young woman whose spacecraft crash lands on a mysterious planet and she can’t find any people around. Hence the name — the planet appears to be abandoned. It doesn’t have all the humor and wackiness of Dexter Stardust, but that doesn’t make it any less worth playing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and the puzzles were all logical, even when they stumped me for a bit. I liked how you pick up an alien journal at some point and that it has clues in it for numerous puzzles. Overall, it was a solid adventure game and I’d highly recommend it to any fans of the genre. I also have a walkthrough guide here if you get stuck.

Adventure Escape Mysteries – Death Dodgers

As I said, I spent much of the last two weeks working on my Death Dodgers walkthrough. I finally finished and I will say this was one of their better games. I was invested in the story and the characters and wanted to see how it would play out. Haiku Games’ writing seems to improve with each game. Again, you have to decide for yourself if it’s worth paying the $9 to play it a couple of weeks early. I will say that it’s a fairly long one, though a lot of it is dialogue. I haven’t played the free bonus game yet, but I’ll let you know what I think of that once I do. I also have a walkthrough guide for Death Dodgers here for anyone who’s already playing.

Carrion

Carrion actually released on iOS over a month ago, but after playing the demo I kind of forgot about it. But I did buy the full version during the launch sale. I remembered it yesterday and finally gave it a try. And I have to say, it feels a lot better than the demo. The progression is a lot smoother and I feel like I’m learning as I go. With the demo I was a bit lost. I definitely plan to play more, though I do wish there was a map so I could see where I’ve been already and where I’m going. It’s a bit disorienting at times and hard to keep track of routes that were locked off that I could access with my newfound abilities. I’ll be sure to share more impressions as I play more, but the full game is definitely more fun than the demo.

Genshin Impact

And last, I’ve been playing a lot of Genshin Impact thanks to the new update that added a lot more to the Natlan map. I played through Chasca’s story quest, as well as a world quest involving a dragon. I also finally got Chasca, but it cost me nearly 160 wishes. I’m enjoying her, so I don’t regret it at the moment. I guess I’ll see how much Mavuika and Citlali take from me. But for now I’m enjoying using her to explore Natlan.

And that’s everything I’ve been up to this week! I also saw Wicked and A Real Pain in theaters and enjoyed both. I finally watched Avatar: The Way of Water, which was absolutely gorgeous and entertaining but the story has a lot of plot holes. Still, I’m looking forward to the next installment. I also watched the first season of My Life is Murder, which was a lot of fun. And I’m now watching Loot on Apple TV+. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re playing and I’ll see you back here next time with My Week Unwrapped!
