Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. Once again, this is actually covering two weeks, as I didn’t have enough for a full roundup last week. I’ve still been spending a lot of time with Genshin Impact, but there are some other noteworthy games to discuss, as well, so pull up a chair and let’s begin.
Dungeons of Dreadrock 2
I was a big fan of the original Dungeons of Dreadrock, which released in 2022 and even made my GOTY list. I knew a sequel was coming, but since it released first on PC and other platforms, I wasn’t completely sure if it would come to mobile. But this past week, just before the end of the year, it came to iOS and is still planned for Android. I got an early copy and made some gameplay video of the first few levels. This one ties into the original, so I recommend playing that first. But the gist of it is — if you liked that one, you should be very happy with the sequel. Both games are puzzlers that require some reflexes here and there, and there’s also a very engrossing story to keep you going. This one features new mechanics and new enemies to conquer. And every level feels worthwhile. I’m not sure if I’ll record more of my playthrough, because doing so stresses me out when I’m struggling with a level. But perhaps after I play through more of it on my own I’ll go back and record some video. If you’re still unsure whether it’s worth buying, you can watch some of my gameplay video below.
Woolly Boy and the Circus
I’ve played most of COTTONGAME’s adventure games by now and I’ve enjoyed some and been less enthused by others. Willy Boy and the Circus released recently and quickly became one of my favorites. It starts with a boy with a hairy face getting kidnapped and taken to the circus to be shown off like a freak. The demo lets you work out how to escape from the first two rooms before you need to pay for the rest of the game. I recommend doing so, because if you like the demo, the rest of the game is a lot longer than I was expecting and you definitely get your money’s worth. My only real complaint about the game is the English translations. There were some really awful lines, but the worst was when they called a dung beetle a “shithead.” The translations took me out of the moment when they were really bad, but they still didn’t ruin the game for me. There’s a ton of character to it and the puzzles were fun to solve, even when I got stumped on them for a bit. If you’re a point-and-click adventure fan, I think this one is worth your time and money. I also have a full walkthrough guide here if you get stuck.
Replay Room – Escape Game
Replay Room is a really innovative escape game in which you collect film reels and then play them to watch certain things play out and unlock new areas to explore. Honestly, it’s hard to describe without seeing it in action, but it’s pretty ingenious. The game is also free with opt-in ads for hints. I think some of the puzzles could have had better clues and I didn’t love having to pixel hunt for some objects. But I think its uniqueness makes it worth at least trying, even if you throw in the towel at some point. And if you want to see it through to the end, you can use my walkthrough.
Genshin Impact
The 5.3 update finally arrived in Genshin Impact, and it brought with it two new 5-star characters, Mavuika and Citlali. I was planning to get both, but after 65 wishes I haven’t gotten anything so now I’m trying to decide which one I want more in case I end up with really bad luck. I’m also playing through the latest archon quest, which I think is supposed to settle the war against the Abyss once and for all. This update didn’t bring any new areas to explore, but between the archon quest and two character story quests, I’m sure I’ll be plenty busy!
And that’s everything I’ve been up to these last two weeks. I also saw the very silly Y2K, the overly long Nosferatu, and A Complete Unknown. And now that I have Max again, I caught up on The Gilded Age, and I also caught up on Doctor Who and am now watching The Mandalorian. It’s possible I watch too much TV. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re playing and I’ll see you back here next time with more of My Week Unwrapped!
Looks like Replay Room was made by the same folks that made The Panel Room escape game as well. I found that one to be very unique and super tricky, as you only get to view the room thru comic book panels, it took me awhile to realize how everything interacted. Definitely worth it if you haven’t tried yet (plus free is perfect). There’s a few of these small developers that make really unique escape games even if the graphics aren’t always up to par, I’d be happy to share a few names with you if you want! I appreciate returning to developers I like, I can’t understand why there is no way to favorite developers in the App Store so I appreciate the heads up on this release – same goes for the Cotton new release too!
Panel Room looks interesting. I’ll check it out, thanks!
