Hi everyone, and welcome back to My Week Unwrapped, where I discuss all the games I’ve been playing over the last seven days. Once again, this will cover two weeks of games instead of just one. There’s a huge new Genshin Impact update, so expect to see a lot of videos of that from me. But right now, I have mostly adventure and puzzle games to discuss in this roundup. Every game I’m covering here is worth your time, so you’ll want to pay attention to this one.
Your House: A Hidden Truth
Patrones y Escondites have released a few games by now, but their first was unmemory, which I compared to Device 6 back when I reviewed it. It combines a text-based story with puzzles and I had a lot of fun unraveling its mysteries. So I was thrilled to learn that the developers were releasing a prequel, called Your House. In it, a young Debbie from the original game is sent a postcard and a key to a house. She doesn’t know who it’s from or if she’s even allowed to stay there. But strange things keep happening and she discovers hidden passageways and all sorts of secrets. I don’t want to give too much away, but I enjoyed solving all the puzzles while learning more about her backstory. I think if you’re a puzzle fan, you’ll have a good time with this. I also have a walkthrough guide here if you get stuck, but the game also has hints you can use.
The Great Sneeze
The Great Sneeze is a free point-and-click adventure meant to teach kids about Caspar David Friedrich’s art, but it should be enjoyable for all ages. At least, I found it entertaining and I’m not a child. Well, maybe at heart. Anyway, the basic premise is that the curator at a museum sneezes and the character from Friedrich’s most famous piece goes missing. You play as three young boys who have to solve puzzles and examine all the other works of art to track him down and set everything right before the museum opens. The art style is charming and the humor is corny but endearing. Also, the game is 100% free. So just go play it!
PBJ – The Musical
I covered PBJ – The Musical a little while back when it was just announced and I was smitten by the adorable cutouts and songs in this bizarre musical comedy about the invention of the peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I’ve since played through the whole game and it really is just so weird and wonderful. My only real issue with is that I’m so busy focusing on moving the characters along that I sometimes miss what they’re saying/singing. I also got stuck a few times but thankfully you can reset a little further back if that happens. I’ll probably play through it again sometime when I’m not recording so I can go at my own pace and listen more to the words. But it’s very much worth playing, especially if you like quirky games. And Philipp Stollenmayer rarely disappoints.
Adventure Escape Mysteries – Dino Country
Haiku Games released a new Adventure Escape Mysteries game this week called Dino Country. It’s only available in the VIP package at the moment, so if you want to play for free you’ll have to wait. I’ve played through a little bit over half the game so far and it’s got the usual quality we’ve come to expect from Haiku, only this time there are dinosaurs! You play as Catalina, who’s taking care of her parents’ dino ranch while they’re gone. But a bunch of dinos and their eggs are stolen and she sets out to track them down. There’s twists and turns — though some are obvious. And the puzzles have been pretty solid so far. The dinosaurs also all look great. The artwork in these games has really improved over the years. So has the writing. I’ll update you on my final impressions once I finish the game, but for now you can use my walkthrough guide if you get stuck.
Genshin Impact
And last, I’m back to recording Genshin Impact daily now that version 5.5 has released. There’s two new characters to pull for — Varesa and Iansan. I tried getting Varesa but ended up with Mona at 27 pity. I continued pulling but haven’t had any luck so far and I need to decide I really want her for more than just her character and animations. I did two copies of Iansen, but I haven’t even begun to build her yet. Meanwhile, there’s a whole new area to explore and we’ve already got a new limited event that started today and features another new character, Ifa. So there’s a lot going on. You can watch my videos below if you missed any of it.
And that’s everything I’ve been up to these last two weeks! I also saw the new Looney Tunes movie, The Day the World Blew Up. It was just as bonkers as I was hoping and my friend and I had a great time even though it’s aimed at kids. We also saw Locked, which was very disappointing. The concept was interesting but it just didn’t pay off. And last, we saw Papa, which is about a father whose son murders his wife and child. It’s a heavy movie but worthwhile. And, of course, I finished watching the second season of Severance and now have to just hope they don’t make us wait another three years for more. Anyway, let me know in the comments section which games you’re playing and I’ll see you back here next time with more of My Week Unwrapped!
