Chapter 11, Puzzle 5, Peacock Brick Wall Mural:

Things get really tricky here. This puzzle is sort of like Minesweeper. I’ll try to explain it as best as I can. The main difference between this and Minesweeper is that you don’t get punished for hitting a bomb. In fact, you can press all the bricks to reveal what’s under them and then go backwards to decide which ones to keep. But if you get a red bomb, that’s definitely not part of the pattern, so put the brick back the way it was.

The clues here are the five bricks in the upper left corner and the lower right corner. Each brick has a certain number of lights lit up. This tells you how many bricks touching it are part of the pattern, meaning how many bricks should be pressed in. The one that’s gray is telling you that that brick isn’t not pressed in, since doing so would mean the other bricks would have too many touching them.

Once you understand that, take a look at the center brick, which was pressed in at the beginning and can’t be pulled out. So that’s your starting point. If you press all the bricks around it, you’ll see that they all have one light lit. That means none of them should be pressed in, because the center brick counts as that one brick that’s touching them all. So that’s the basic idea. I suggest revealing them all and then figuring out which ones to put back the way they were.
